Probably another topic that'll die but i like talking with you guys rather than strangers on reddit so i figured i'd give it a try.
Anyways! so does anybody else that can touch type and know where the button is sometimes look at their keyboard with a blank keyset anyways?
For me it's mostly when i go to push one key like period or something. Even though i could have touched typed it i just kinda look at my board with a blank keyset and peck the one key lol
Edit: i also added the, "Is anyone else" to the title to ask things like "is anyone else having problems with youtube being really slow and lagging?"
-
I do the same. I actually used to have my keyboard on a keyboard tray inside of my desk, and I would look down to type despite the fact that their was a desk in the way. :p
-
Sure do.
It's weird, but somehow it 'recalibrates' my typing reflexes/muscle memory

hahaha, that's awesome.
I kinda do the same when i forgot my watch, i just sit there looking at my wrist trying to figure out what's wrong and after the full 5 seconds or so i realize and pull out my phone lol

Like set's your hands back to home row?
So i kinda want to make this a dual purpose thread so people can discuss if a site is down or something like what i'm wondering.
Is anyone else having problems with youtube being really slow and lagging?

Despite the fact that I can touch type, and almost never look at the keys, I don't use typically use blanks. However, on my desk I usually have one keyboard sitting right above the one I'm using - right now my JD40 is sitting above my Poker, and when I do look down to reference the board, it is almost always on the one above it, not the one I'm actually using.
I glance at the keys more out of habit than an actual need to do so.

Haha, I know that feel too.

I'm not used to having 2 keyboards on my desk but it's becoming more of a thing because my GON feels much better than the K95, for obvious reasons.

Practically the only time I purposely look at a keyboard is if I'm having trouble hitting a certain key (numrow 5, 6, 7, 8 still give me trouble sometimes), or am doing a key combination that isn't really in muscle memory. In those cases. I actually count off individual keys from the left side of the board until I see the key I want. More commonly, I'll hit a key, realize I've hit the wrong one, offset my hand position accordingly, backspace, and hit the right one.
I have 2-3 boards on my desk as a matter of course. If I do look at a board for reference (not common, I have ANSI qwerty pretty much committed to memory at this point), I'll usually look to the board pushed back. It's a smaller movement, and my hands aren't covering it already. Just easier that way.
-
I use mostly blanks on my boards and 99% of the time, I'm fine. However, there are times when I have a massive brain fart and I'll stop typing, stare down at my board, and go, "****, I wish I had legends." This happens more when I switch from my 40% to 60/65% or vice versa. The brain gets confused. :(
-
I don't own any blank sets, but I'm strange and I can't type my password without looking down and pecking at watch character.
-
Ever since getting the ergodox , I've not had to look at my hands at all. You don't lose tracking as much as a regular board because all the keys are close together
-
I don't think I have ever depended on nubs or dished keys to position my hands. I go by sight, or by trial-and-error.
But you don't always type text. It is often thatI need to press a single key or key command without the hands on the keyboard, or with only one hand available - which would then have to be used for the "wrong" side of the keyboard.
Most often, the other hand is occupied with a coffee cup, pen or some tool. (No dirty jokes, please. I build stuff with reference materials and drawings on the computer screen)
-
I can only use a blank keyboard if I'm not looking at the keys, if I stop mid sentence and then look at the keys I get lost haha and then have to start poking around to find what I'm looking for before I can get back into a rhythm again haha

I posted this earlier but no one seem to have saw it but....
Is anyone else having problems with youtube being insanely slow and laggy? like it'll bog down my whole browser and it's annoying the **** out of me.
There's no way (hopefully) that it's my computer.

No youtube issues for me. What browser/OS/hardware?
I know there are some issues with Chrome and Macs. You have to disable hardware acceleration for it to work correctly.

Hrm, that's odd then.
I've not been keen on Firefox for some time (it got stupid bloated and slow for even basic things years and years ago), so I can't comment on that. Are you using the HTML5 player or Flash? If Flash, set your computer on fire and walk away.

hmm, i didn't realize that this was a thing.... Seems i need to look into these kinds of things.
Thanks i think installing HTML5 player fixed my issue, i'll report back after more testing.
Thanks

Yeah this solved my issue, thanks.
Is there anything else like this that i should be aware of?
-
uhhhhhh
what do you mean by 'install' the html player? if you actually installed a plugin or exe file, it was definitely not an 'html5 player'

it would be great if people elaborated on stuff like this...
it installed a plugin into FF for it.

Yeah, HTML5 is a browser-supported language. It's not hot garbage from Adobe.

Interesting, thank you!

remember that not all videos support running in the html5 player (i think the only criteria is ad support as of now). EDIT: i haven't actually seen a flash vid for awhile now that I think about it. right-click on the vid and look for 'about flash player' or 'about html5 player' respectively near the bottom of the rightclick menu
therefore i do not recommend removing flash from firefox. there is a non-plugin flash replacement called shumway being developed by the firefox team, but it's quite a ways off.
the html5 player might not support 4k unless you can enable it on this page: https://www.youtube.com/testtube?gl=CA

Sweet, thanks for the info.
I don't have a 4k monitor anyways so that doesn't really matter and i already removed flash so i'll just test this out for a while and see if it works for me and if not i at least know what the problem is.

your darn ergodox again!
I find using keycaps of different heights or textures is very important because otherwise I can't touch type at all. The heights and textures help me identify where I am.

I occasionally find myself staring at my blank keyboard, but mostly for shortcuts when I'm sitting down or getting up (Windows+L ftw!). Whenever I'm in the actual flow of typing, my brain just kind of spaces out and focuses on the movements of my hands themselves, so I'm not really "looking" at anything. ^-^
