Title: "Moky is simple and awesome, just like you!"
Post by: trauring on Sun, 07 June 2015, 01:10:09
There's an IndiGogo campaign (https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/moky-invisible-touchpad-keyboard) for a keyboard called Moky that has a virtual touchpad so you can do multi-touch gestures right over the keyboard. It uses a laser array over the keyboard to accomplish it. It's an interesting idea, and ergonomically it's probably much better than most pointing devices since you don't need to move away from the keyboard itself. They list 21 filed patents on their campaign page. I suspect if it works they'll be bought out real fast.

Seems like resting your finger on the mouse button is what toggles it between keyboard and mouse modes. It's an interesting idea, but I worry a little about the ergonomics of not letting the thumb "float" while the fingers are moving over the keyboard area. Normally, with a touchpad or trackball, you might keep your thumb on the buttons a lot of the time, but at the same time, you don't have to worry about the mousing function cutting out if you should let it move.
