Hi guys,
I found that a piece had broken off from one of the barrels on the Model M I'm restoring. Here's an easy and effective way to repair it. You'll need:
- A super glue "all plastics" kit, consisting of a marker-like Activator pen and some glue. (Two brands I know of are Loctite (http://www.amazon.com/Loctite-681925-Plastics-Bonding-Activator/dp/B000Y3LHXW) and LePage's (http://www.homedepot.ca/product/lepageltsupgtreglt-supgt-superltsupgtreglt-supgt-glue-all-plastics/973100).)
- A small bottle of super glue with a brush applicator. (Dollar stores usually have them.)
- Open the Activator and apply it to the broken surfaces of both the barrel and the broken-off piece. Be sure to completely cover both breaks.
- Wait one minute for the Activator to take effect.
- Brush some super glue onto barrel's break.
- Fit the broken-off piece back into the barrel and hold it for a few seconds.
- Wait several minutes before replacing the key stem and cap.
