Title: A few questions regarding lubrication and stem swapping
Post by: Mooksie on Fri, 19 June 2015, 23:51:13
Hey guys, hopefully you can help me out. I have 2 questions.

2. What's the best lube for linears? A thicker grease, a thin lube, or a mixture?

1. If I use a gateron linear stem in an mx switch, is it smoother than mx or close to gateron at all? What about a vintage black stem in a newer, but broken in, housing? If someone could please try this I would be eternally grateful!

Thanks!  :thumb:

2) I like a medium viscosity but I think a thinner lube would be fine.

1) I did that experiement in this review (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=70676.0).

Thank you for the info. Sorry if I seem daft but I read through the whole thing and didn't see a mention of how a gateron black stem felt in a cherry housing.

It was all right. Slightly smoother than a vintage Black but not as good as a stock Gateron IMO. Really no point in swapping the housings and stems. Just use vintage Blacks or Gateron Blacks and lube. I prefer lubed Gateron Blacks.

Edit: Should'ved linked this instead

Thanks. I just really don't want to desolder the switch bottoms from my poker x.
