Group Buy is now here, this thread is locked. (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=73104.0)
Google Form (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1otrHNzThNkkZn8CY-47yjlB6FHep7Vl_48DESgGdsGU/)
These switches are MX Lock switches, a Cherry switch that locks upon press, and unlocks upon the second press. We are ordering MX1A-31NN, or plate mount MX Lock switches.
I will be contacting Cherry personally and any distributors that I can find that will carry it.
MOQ is 100, pricing @ 100 is $6/switch, pricing @ 500 is $5.20/switch
I'm not sure about lead times, since nobody has them in stock, and this is a very rare switch.
I will be handling shipping and logistics.
Shipping is $3.50 First Class or $5.50 Priority Mail in the US, probably about $5-6.
I have contacted a few distributors, and right now only one has gotten back to me. They apparently have 4,790 switches in stock, not sure how accurate that is. According to their rep, pricing from here (http://search.cpluselectronics.com/cpluse1.aspx?part=mx1a31nn&submit=&InvID=7622795115) would be $6 per switch for 100 switches, or $5.20 per for 500 switches.
Pricing(updated when I hear back from suppliers/distributors)
$6 <----- We are here
$5.20 <----- About 200 more to get to here, thanks Jack!

Cherry requires 100k USD worth in switches in order for them to sell to you

We are not ordering directly from Cherry, I think we will be ordering from a surplus electronics store called "C Plus Electronics", see their website (http://search.cpluselectronics.com/cpluse1.aspx?part=mx1a31nn&submit=&InvID=7622795115)

Count me in for a lot, depending on the price.

Right now we're looking at $5.20/switch(ouch) if we can hit 500 switches...
-
In for 5. Considering I don't use any Lock on my keyboards anymore, but I still find them fascinating.
Alps people gonna be yawning all day long...
-
4 for me
-
I would buy up to 20 if the price is a little better. Hopefully we can reach MOQ.
-
Someone should make a 60% using these switches, lubed, custom Korean springs :)
-
7bit has been trying to reach MOQ on these for a very long time on DT. Most of us have tried to help him out.

I'm aware of 7bit's group buy, but he seems very occupied with Round 5, and he hasn't released numbers for the MOQ, so it doesn't seem that much progress is being made, which is why I decided to start gauging interest

We have already met MOQ, but it's a bit expensive. Still waiting to hear from more suppliers on prices.
-
5 for me.

I would probably buy 5

I agreed you, Kevin. MX lock is great for Fn position. So I only need 1 switch for a board.
-
I would take 10pcs

i would take 10pcs

I think I'd be down for five!

These prices are rediculous =\ there was a previous group buy where lock switches were $1 each
Edit: Nonetheless im in for 10. I'll get in for more if you get them at a more reasonable price

I'd be in for a few.

Right, that's the group but I mentioned above that hasn't reached MOQ.
If there were ever any sold it was years ago so not really relevant now.
-
i have a ton of these sat around doing nothing, last time i looked about 50 or 60
so if this doesnt end up panning out and anyone is desperate for a few, just shoot me a pm
-
I just got an email back from Cherry saying MX Locks are discontinued, and were years ago. Anyways, I've decided to open up the group buy when we hit 300 switches. Hopefully we can get to the 500 mark and pay $5.20 a switch. I'm still talking with suppliers though, so the price may go down :)

In for 3

count me in for 3-4

I'd be in for 100+
-
I'd be in for 100+

I'd be in for 100+
This makes total sense to me. The FN usage of this key on a planck style board would be awesome for sure!
-
So if I swapped my left shift switch with one of these, I would no longer have to hold it down in games? Just press it once and forget about it? :)
-

Jack you're crazy... $500 worth of switches o.o
-

Yes, but you'd need to press it again to release it.

Sounds good, I'd buy a few of them :)

We've met the MOQ, and the 300 switch mark, I'll be starting the GB soon! :D

Yes, although I have an unconfirmed source with pricing @ ~$1/switch. I'm currently talking to them

Make sure you don't get suckered with the fake mx locks that were going around a while back.

I haven't heard of that, thanks for letting me know. I'll ask the supplier for some pictures, just to make sure.
Edit: I asked the supplier for some samples, just waiting for an email back.
-
I joined 7 Bits GB for this but if you can get these sourced for 1$ a switch I'd still be in for some. Might grab a couple at ~5$ anyways.
-
I submitted my form
-
I will feel much better joining if you have samples on hand first. I think you should slow down on the GB until that point personally. Just my 0.02 though.

I asked the supplier for some samples yesterday, I should (hopefully) be getting them by the end of the week

That is great to hear. Assuming everything checks out, I may pick up a few.

Since the mods haven't approved my GB thread, I thought I'd post the numbers here. Right now we're at 158, 120 of those being Jack's

Alright, well I couldn't get samples(MOQ is 20 and I would have to pay $180...), so I got the next best thing, pictures!
