I take it that first photo is upside-down because, as you're in the lower hemisphere where everything presumably upside-down, it would appear normal to you.

Yes, normally the legends are the right way up on keyboards down here.

Don't be silly, the keyboard is upside down so that the words are the right way up for everyone else. If I type with my keyboard facing towards me it looks like this to people in the US:
