Hi fellow ghers. Long time lurker first time poster. Looking at massdrop has gotten me addicted to keyboards and it's hurting my wallet =( I'm also quite into headphones and portable music which is also quite an expensive hobby
Currently own a 55g topre tkl, novatouch with ikbc caps, and ikbc blue switch tk. Looking at getting my first custom Korean board but not sure where to start. If anyone wants to do a trade, I have new i5 surface pro 3 I'm willing to swap =)

Hello from Austria to Australia! Nice keyboard collection you have - I love my 55g Realforce TKL!

Hello! I'm defenitely liking the feel of the 55g switch for typing and for me it's just as good for gaming. Took me a while to hit the buy button but defintiely one of the best purcahses i have made. Silky smooth!

Welcome to Geekhack!
Where did you get the RealForce from? EK?
Many say that 55g is the sweet spot for Topre switches, although my experience is limited to my 45g HHKB at the moment. a 55g RealForce is one of the few keyboards left on my wish list.

HM for custom keyboards... I'm not sure what's coming up. :))
I'd try all the switches before deciding on one for your custom.

I got the realforce from mechkb which is based in Australia. Our exchange rate is horrendous at the moment so you might get a good deal from them too. Out of all the topre switches the 55g is definitely my favourite
I joined the recent Massdrop gb for the cm storm switch tester and liked the linear switches a lot but I think ill stick to a tactile switch like the clears or modded clears

doesnt get much better than a 55g topre!

Aha! I check MechKB from time to time, but I think it's only recently that they got some uniform 55g RealForce in.
Unfortunately a bit expensive for me at the moment, plus I'm eyeing that CODE on Massdrop too.

I just realised you were in Melbourne haha. Good to know i'm not alone here.
Massdrop is great, except for the wait and sometimes shipping for us can be slightly expensive.

You get used to the wait, and shipping anything from OS is expensive.
Cultivate some patience, and try to spread the purchases out seems to work best for me.

Would those happen to be fostex headphones on the left? If so I'm super jelly. What dac/amp are you running?

Well they're Mr Speaker Alpha dogs which are modified fostex headphones. I hardly use it anymore though cos it's a bit too laid back for me.
I'm using HDVD800 with HD800 combo and sometimes switch over to Woo Audio WA7 setup running a separate Beresford audio DAC.

Wow I didn't even notice those HD800's since they're hiding in that beanbag thing. Is that like a lounge chair for your headphones? The 800's are my dream cans. I have some HD600's with and M&M Schiit stack right now. It'll be several years before I upgrade but it will happen! What do you listen to? That's a pretty serious collection.
-
Haha it's actually an ostrich pillow (neck pillow) but serves pretty well as my hd800 holder. I used to have HD600's with schitt asgard and they were great but the 800's are next level. The difference in imaging is night and day. Don't listen to them just yet though, your wallet will hate your for it.
I listen usually listen to electronic music (chillstep, edm, trance), rnb and a bunch of other stuff when i feel like it. Recently been getting into portables though which has burnt a hell of a big hole in my wallet :(
-
Ya I'm avoiding listening to my friends bottlehead crack speedball amp because I don't want to know haha. Fortunately for me I've never had a chance to listen to the 800's but I hear incredible things about them. I think I'm gonna end up getting some IEM's (Either JH 13 pro or Noble 4s) first though just because I listen to my portable set up (RHA 750, fiio E11, Fiio X1) more often than my home set up and I'd love to have next level sound every where I go.
-
You should also look into the more mainstream brands as well (sennheiser, shure, akg) cos they will be a lot cheaper than JH or Noble stuff. I was about to pull the trigger on a JH Angie and ended up with the se846's instead.
I hear bad things about JH customer service and would never buy a custom from them. The universals that go through Astell and Kern are ok though i think
