Title: Unicomp/KVM weirdness?
Post by: ander on Sun, 19 July 2015, 20:55:01
Hey KB guys,

Do any of you use a KVM switch to share USB peripherals between two PCs? That's what I do here with my desktop and portable PCs, and I've never had any trouble with it.

Now, when I switch my 4-year-old Unicomp 104 to the desktop PC, it works for a couple of minutes; then the lock lights blink and go out and the KB's unresponsive. When I switch back to the portable, the KB works again, and I can use it with the desktop for a couple more minutes till it goes out again.

I've noticed that when this happens, Device Manager refreshes and shows several extra entries under Keyboard that don't seem related to anything. If I connect the board directly to the desktop's USB, it works fine.

Any ideas? I realize this is kind of esoteric, but feel free to chime in.

Nevermind.  I was thinking of another issue Ander.  Sounds to me like you may have a problem with your keyboard controller, rather than a problem with your KVM.  Does the keyboard stop working on both computers if you have it directly connected to them?

Nope, it works fine when connected directly to either one.

Oh well, it's not that big a deal... I just thought someone else might've run into something similar. Thanks!
