I'm going to run outside and catch one of the lizards that inhabit my neighborhood. Then I'm going to raise it to be the Godzilla to your Mothra. Oh the battles we'll have
Tasker's keycaps are pretty amazing, I think a lot of people haven't cottoned onto how large his range is and some of the cool materials they're available in.
Here's a few examples.MoreShow Image(https://images4.sw-cdn.net/model/picture/625x465_2972744_8294491_1437820861.jpg)Show Image(https://images2.sw-cdn.net/model/picture/625x465_2929337_8918661_1429739102.jpg)Show Image(https://images2.sw-cdn.net/model/picture/625x465_2971798_8019312_1429741263.jpg)Show Image(https://images2.sw-cdn.net/model/picture/625x465_2715700_8521005_1429743103.jpg)
It doesn't help when those first two caps are literally bingecap designs.
So last year in the fall an Imperial Moth laid her eggs on my porch, and I decided to save them, considering a lot of them were pooped out onto the ground by accident. I didn't expect the young larvae to be able to survive the condition by themselves, nor did I know a random suitable place for them.
I'm also not an expert in raising these guys, I found a lot of help reading the interwebs. Months float on by, and by this time I am only left with two larvae unfortunately. I'm not sure how they died, sometimes it just happens I imagine. It was pretty crushing though to see them die so randomly, since I was rather attached to these little guys.
Soon after the sausage stage (not actual term, however they were ****ing huge), these two larvae finally managed to molt! Awesomesauce right? Most of the summer goes by, and I checked up on them. You can do this by barely touching the pupae and it'll give you a jerk or wiggle in return. Sadly one of the pupae didn't make it :( However, one did and I'm quite certain it's a female! You can tell the sex by the notches on them during this stage in their life. The other pupae had been male, which kinda sucks.

ANYWAYYYYYYYYYYY, I checked on her today and boom! Moth! I wasn't even expecting it, nor did I get the opportunity to see her hatch. However, I did notice she pooped all over my container, and for some reason she looks a bit ragged. She did manage to fly out of the container, and is content on my porch as of now. Hopefully, during the night, she can find a male so she can go make some babies.
If you wanna know more, because you're a nerd you can find some more info on these specific moths, go here: http://entnemdept.ufl.edu/creatures/bfly/moth2/imperial_moth.htm
But yea, I felt like I had to share my new moth baby with you guys. I think it's just incredible that I managed to not kill her (as I am much noob at moth breeding), and helped her to adulthood! :)
Shared with Wifu. She's got a ton of baby birds she's working with right now.
::EDIT:: Her reply, "PUPPIES!"
This is an awesome "worklog" and an impressively large moth - congrats, and thanks for sharing!
I love the fourth instar larva which looks like it's covered in little targets, are birds really stupid enough to believe they're covered in eyes? :))
this is awesome

Life - something that people miss these days as it flies past at a slow pace, compared to the flow of electronic information inundating our senses nearly 24x7.
Thank you for sharing :)
Also, GH has a moth lady now.

Is high speed compressed information not the testament to our evolutionary prowess above other animals?
The moth probably wish it had Moth facebook, so it can stalk other moths at reduced time costs...

you have terrible ideas
Very cool project.
My kids raised some little tent caterpillars when they were younger, but your Imperial Mothra is stunning.
Excellent work.
Whoooaaaaa that's so cool! My mom just did something similar with a Monarch butterfly. :)
