Introduction:
Got hook into this hobby from the sight of DanGWanG's beautiful KMAC. Back then, KMAC came in like a wrecking ball, wrecking many, many wallets, and that kick start the Korean custom keyboard hype from that day onwards. Having tasted the many Korean custom boards, the ideas start pouring in, and in that mix, the best quality ingredients (or features, in this case) are picked up and thrown into the design. With the help of a group of enthusiasts with similar interest, the design is polished from time to time, prototypes after prototypes, until the satisfactory result is achieved. The TGR is ready.
“Everything should be made as simple as possible, but no simpler.” – Albert Einstein.
This is what TGR Jane is all about, a quality, clean, solid, elegant custom keyboard, no fancy pancy, only classy. The beauty of it is astounding despite its plain Jane design. But lo and behold, the value of it lies within, as all of the built focus is in making sure the keyboard delivers a solid feel to the one who wields it.

-
wooo that pink... I ain't dank enough to afford that price at the moment though!
-
Gosh, just looks so good :p
-
The final design render is what will actually be made correct? So the tgr engraving will be above the arrow keys?
-
Ordered, but now I'm not sure I want to go with black after rechecking the renders. I've never owned a KMAC but told myself if I did I'd get the blacker color, but those renders make it hard to decide between black and dark gray!
-
The final design render is what will actually be made correct? So the tgr engraving will be above the arrow keys?
Yeap. The final design render is what will actually be made. Cheerys
-
I'm in for black! They all look so good though.
-
These look amazing.
Stupid question: is the board fully soldered and assembled?
-
Ordered. :thumb:
Decided to go with the alu plate, is the color of the plate fixed? if not I would love to get a red one. :p
-
Ordered, going with aluminum plate, debating on steel as I've heard it is good for linear switches. Can we have additional plates? :))
-
Blue grey hehe
-
This board looks so spectacular.
It's not in my budget, but it's beautiful, and will certainly be prized by whoever does get one!
-
Can someone explain the difference between full plate and half plate
-
Can someone explain the difference between full plate and half plate
Half plate doesn't have a section for the alphas. Basically you are supposed to use PCB mount switches there.
-
Put an order in for the JANE. Yuktsi I sent you a PM
-
Can someone explain the difference between full plate and half plate
Full plate is just as it sounds. Half plate covers only the mods, not the alphas (see photo below from Reaper).
Many claim that certain switch types feel superior without a plate, but the modifiers might feel better with the plate, hence the half plate. It's something that many might consider unnecessary, and is more prominent in the Korean community.
-
Ok, thanks for explaining!
-
Can someone explain the difference between full plate and half plate
Full plate is like most modern boards, fully plate mounted across the board. Half plate is where the modifiers are plate mounted, but with a large cutout in the plate for the alpha keys which are pcb mounted. I've only seen this done with a Korean custom board, the Cheat IIRC. It's done for the reasons Hoff said plus with the alphas being pcb mounted you can easily switch out spring/stems which can be nice.
-
Crap. I submitted the order quickly so I don't lose a spot, but already I want to make some changes! yuktsi, sorry for all the PMs!
-
Real hype going on here.. I can smell that the spots are filling up fast. :p
-

I also apologize for the PMs and look forward to this GB being a great success.

Does anyone have personal experience with half plates? Like 'em? Dislike 'em?
-
Does anyone have personal experience with half plates? Like 'em? Dislike 'em?
I've never typed on half plate, even my cheat is full plate. Just imagine typing on PCB mount keyboard for the main 33 keys and the number row.
-
Does anyone have personal experience with half plates? Like 'em? Dislike 'em?
Personally dislike them. I like a uniform build on my boards ;)
-
Decisions, decisions...
Have everything else down. Just not sure if I want a plate and what kind.
-
Sent you a pm about getting an extra PCB + Plate ;D

I really dig the clean look, but the logo seems a bit too embedded for my liking.
Compared to the following pic, will it be "deeper"?

So nice! So beyond my budget! :'(
-
Damn I didn't expect it so soon. **** I don't have enough. :(
-
What does TGR stand for? I'd like one without any sort of engraving, something just clean and simple.
-
Looks like a fantastic board. I wish I could afford/justify one right now, but good luck to everyone who grabs one of these.
-
Will it be possible to get a second PCB + plate with this, or no?
-
Beautiful board! Love the clean look, if only I could afford it :-X.
-
looks wonderful, why are you limiting this to only 20 boards?
sadly, this is too rich for my blood. and not topre. but good luck!
-
Selamat Pagi ! Good Morning from Malaysia !
It is great to see our first Malaysian aluminium custom keyboard to go On-Air, and sharing the joy for our international friends as well. ;D
I have discussed assembling services with Yuktsi regarding this group buy in the planning process.
To those who are interested to have your TGR assembled and working properly once you get it on hand, just shoot me a PM anytime, you are more than welcome to ask.
I am partnering with Yuktsi solely for keyboard assembly, including diodes & resistors soldering works (If you would like to have) on PCB.
Cheers, have a good night/day to our buddies over the world. :D
-
I might be interested in ordering one of these, but I'd like to know if it's possible to have it pre-assembled with switches and stuff and how much that would cost.
I'm in Malaysia, by the way.
-

The process is quite simple bro.
The keyboard cost alone + assembling cost = Final cost
Assembling wise, we have to wait until the production is finished then we should talk about it.
-
Will it support a standard bottom row (1.25u modifiers and 6.25u spacebar)? There's no renders of it, hence I'm asking.
-
Will it support a standard bottom row (1.25u modifiers and 6.25u spacebar)? There's no renders of it, hence I'm asking.
I believe it does because you have an option for a 84 key layout or an 87 key layout (this is the one which uses 1.25u modifiers and 6.25u spacebar) in the order form.
-

It's a winkeyless board so 1.5 modifiers and a 7u spacebar only
Herp derp
It says 86/87 keys are an option in the order form

I love it.
Yuktsi, is there any way to request certain numbers? If not, that's cool.

so hype! congrats to yuktsi for successfully turning TGR from IC to GB!

Yeah, when you already have $120+ invested in a keyset, you might as well make sure you can use it :p

Possible. Mr. Yongjk has volunteered to help with the assembly. With a small fees of course.
These look amazing.
Stupid question: is the board fully soldered and assembled?
for $420, you are getting only the case + plate + pcb presoldered with controllers. However, you may request Yongjk to assist you with the assembly.

Sure why not. Will come to that once the invoices are issued.

I am not sure bro. But the depth for the TGR logo ~ 0.5mm
looks wonderful, why are you limiting this to only 20 boards?

Well, I see this as a casual groupbuy. Yes, making more will further reduce the cost and I can make more profit out of it.
But for now, 20 is quantity that I am comfortable with.
Can u post a excel to show orders?
Big god, I will. Don't worry.
-
asking because i don't trust online photos when it comes to colors: how closely will your blue grey version resemble Duck's?

PM'ed
-
Hi guys, the slots were all taken at approximately 3 hours after the approval bump. I was stoked seeing the number of orders coming in. Thank you for the interest in Jane.
But again, only 20 sets will be made. I will issue the invoice in the next 24 hours, feel free to PM me if you have any doubts with the payment. Then we can discuss further on assembly service, extra plate, extra pcb, etc etc...
Again, this groupbuy means a lot me. I am still thinking of a way to thank those who managed to secure a slot.
Cheers.
-

Well, I don't one in hand now to compare. But if my memory serves me right, the blue grey of duck's one is lighter.

Man, I'm going to have a sell a bunch of stuff to make this happen for me, but believe you me I'm going to make it happen! I thought the Mira was going to be my first custom board, but it looks like this will be. I've been drooling over the KMACs since DangWang's blog post too, and I can't believe I'm going to own a custom board that looks exactly like it.
I may order an extra plate too. Maybe a PCB, but definitely another plate.

Since this is going to be your first definitely pick up at least an extra pcb. You don't want something catastrophic to happen and leave you pcb-less.

will invoicing begin as soon as the last spot fills or on the 16th of August?

I thought of this when I was designing the board.
I had problem with getting a pcb for my 360c back then, and I ended paying a lot of money just for a basic pcb.
Jane supports A87U PCB from WKL, so you shouldn't have a problem with getting one. Even if you do, you can use tx87 pcb from Kin25.
Any A87U pcb man, so you have nothing to worry man :))

Just found out about ZealPC's custom MX Ergo Clears. I think I may want those. This board will be able to support those switches and LEDs, right? (Assuming I landed a Jane.)

They would if you're only planning to use the regular LEDs. I believe one of the selling features of the new switches is the support for 4 pin RGB LEDs which you won't be able to use.

Ah, nuts.Okay. Looks like I'll just stick with someone making the Ergo Clears while they're making the board for me. Will probably still get the ZealPCs switches, but will use them on another board.
Because I'm still somewhat new, what are some recommended boards/customs Zeal's switches can use?
Don't mean to derail this thread.

Not many at the moment actually, but according to Zeal's post he should be working on getting a PCB to work with those switches soon for full 4 pin RGB support.

Yuktsi, I'm so elated right now. Just one small change: Can I make mine titanium gray? Other than that it's perfect!

I'm in! Sweet! Please send some Roti Canai as well, I loved to eat that when I was in Malaysia :))
I don't want to saddle you with another burden, but would it be possible to source stabilizers with the kit?
/edit
I've just received an invoice for $439,65, could you explain the additional $19,65 please?

So now that I'm officially part of the club, I'm thinking about what I'd want in the board. As for LEDs, what's possible with the PCB? I was thinking of putting all white LEDs, but I want to know if it's possible to customize how I'd want the LEDs to function. For example, not lighting at all, setting the brightness, or turning on only the LEDs of keys like Caps Lock, Num Lock, etc. when they're activated.
Sorry for the newb questions.

Quick update before I went mia for the weekend
Jane might use TX87 pcb, which is a much more advance pcb than A87u. Also mean that I am making less. Haha.
Have a nice weekend.

Oh, my gosh! So that means RGB? Is that it? So ZealPC switches?
Not sure whether to thank you for the options or giving too many!

Anyway, this was the first CAD I did back then. Found it when I was going through the correspondence with the laser cut factory. Nostalgic.

Given the prior situation, I hope their standards when it comes to packaging will increase given the amount of money on the line here. There were many great suggestions on how to ship expensive boards in Joey's 456 thread that more than likely got overlooked.

I forget which picture I just recently saw of a great way to package a keyboard, but it was soft cell foam, stacked up, and then a hole cut in about 3/4 of the sheets that were stacked up and glued together, that way it created a case of it. Or those form-fitting foam packs that form when activated. It is pretty easy to package something if you are willing to pay 15$ for shipping materials. It costs a little bit more, but i would rather pay 15$ for a board to come in perfect condition, instead of having to ask for a partial refund when it comes because of damage.

Do you mean to pack it in small and compact form? Just joking.
What I will do is, I will post photos of how the board will be packed and the buyers will comment. We will come to an agreement on how the board will be packed and shipped. I will not be responsible for any damage during shipping. No more compensating the buyer for the damage caused by the custom office or the courier.
Anyway, I have costed $15 in for packaging. So yeah, all good.

Yep, this is a great way to make custom briefcase-style fitted carrying cases as well. I believe I saw this kind of shipping in the post about JoeyQuinn's 456 having been lost in the mail. It should be very secure!

holy smokes, acrylic diffuser looks great. is there a guide on how LEDs work on keyboards (diodes, resistors); i have little to no experience with electrical work
The RGB LEDs are controlled by the controller part I suppose, which are usually ordered as soldered by default. At least that's the case for B87 pcbs. The diodes are for switches and resistors are for switch LEDs.
-
That TX87 and diffuser are amazing! You mentioned it was based on the currency exchange but I'd be willing to put more down for the difference needed.

Ok, I see. So it's better to have resistors and diodes presoldered on the PCB with the controller. That way the LEDs and switches can just be soldered on.

For how the diffuser will be integrated, probably yes, for the case styling, not so much. But both look very good in their own way.

Are there going to be any components presoldered?
I'd also like to know. Also, I've read the 456GT thread, and it isn't really reassuring a $1000 board got lost during transit. The packaging could also use a bit of improvement (new box, more compact, wrap everything separately). But, like you said you've factored in $15 per board, that shouldn't be a problem.

That was a learning experience for a lot of people and an unlucky mishap from the postal service.
-
I just thought about this: what about possible damage during shipping?
That's a very real concern, imo.
Given the prior situation, I hope their standards when it comes to packaging will increase given the amount of money on the line here. There were many great suggestions on how to ship expensive boards in Joey's 456 thread that more than likely got overlooked.
So yeah, all good.

i think the first post mentions that the controllers will be pre-soldered and then there's a table with the price of components and assembly by YongJK.
hmm, the part highlighted in bold red gives me the impression that buyers get to see how their boards are going to be packed and can be discussed with yuktsi before they are shipped out. and he did mentioned $15 cost in packaging, i'm quite sure that means new packaging materials such as box foams and wrapping.
with just 19 boards to ship out (1 is his own order), i believe it's manageable for him to discuss with buyers and then packed them accordingly and then HOPEFULLY (yuktsi, read this!), with his new experience under his belt, we might see round 2 of TGR! ;D ;D :thumb:

I think there are plans for another TGR already since he's giving the 19 of us dibs on the next buy

Still amazed at how fast these went. I placed my order like six hours after it was opened and I still didn't get in, lol.

Pff. Placed mine within six minutes of it going up.
I just happened to look at the newest threads at the right time, is all.

I goof'd, my feed kept saying the IC thread only had 50 posts so I figured there hadn't been an update, and then bam I click on it and suddenly there's a GB thread and the sale is going and I'm here scrambling to get my order in.
-

I have new GB threads set to notify me by email, and I knew this was going to be happening around that date as Yuktsi had said so in the IC thread so I had sound alerts on.
-
I was originally 13th and ordered maybe 3 hours after it went up.
-
just a thougt, is the number going to be put into the board or is it just the weight? otherwise ppl can just swapp the weight with eachother.

I took that to mean that the people who filled out the order form, but didn't make the first 20 slots, would get dibs on the next round. Not the people who were lucky and did make it into the first round. :)

Dear all, before I place any order for the boxes and PE foam. I would like to know how would you guys like the board to be packed?
This is what I have in mind
1) I will pre-assemble the board, meaning that I will screw everything together.
2) Wrap it with plastic wrap
3) Wrap with PE foam, 50mm thick in top bottom, front back direction
4) Put it into a box, fill the left right direction with 50mm of PE foam.
5) The box is small enough to prevent any movement in the box
6) Seal the box with adhesive tape. Attach the shipping address to the box.
7) Wrap the box with the brown wrapping paper (post office requirement), attach the shipping address on the wrapping paper.
8) Bring it to the post office and send.
Please advise. Huhu

I would recommend screwing the pcb into the case, I feel like the pcb isn't rigid enough by itself.

I will secure the pcb to the plate with some switches.

That's the best way I've seen korean boards make it safe to the US. PCB and plate are in separate plastic sleeves, which are layered loose in the case, then wrapped in foam sheeting and taped shut.
-
Realistically speaking, if the package is going to take a hard enough impact to dent the case then I don't think it really matters whether it's individually wrapped or pre-assembled. I think the key point should be the cushioning around all the items as a whole.

the keyboard will be cushioned by at lest 50mm of PE foam in all direction.

FWIW I've had a few new, unbuilt customs shipped to me all screwed together like yuktsi suggested and I've had no problems at all. The ones that were shipped to me also had a lot less padding than he's suggesting. Also, the PCBs were just sitting inside the cases.. Not fixed in place.
The brown wrapping is a worry though after seeing what happened to joey quinn's keyboard. That is a dumb ****ing requirement by the post office. Is there no way around it?

Oh oh thanks for sharing DIY kit package method. In fact, I never get any DIY kit before :(

Shouldn't be a issue I would think with all new boxes though, as there will be no old address for USPS to get confused about if they decide to open it up like they likely did on Joey Quinn's board.

I agree with demik on this. I've felt very good about all the Duck boards I've received, which were all in separate pieces and packed individually. There will be inevitable shifting and the screws will likely come loose, causing scratches, if packaged assembled. It may not happen most of the time, but if it happens once it would be very unfortunate.

Anyone using assembly services from Yongjk interested in the Zealio purple clear switches offered in GB? Shipping these switches tracked/insured to Malaysia costs ridiculously at $30-45, so if a few geekhackers are interested we could split the shipping.

Not too much of a rush, though. Gotta set aside money for assembly and shipping, still.
Also, anyone interested yet in doing a small Zealio GB for the Jane? I myself want to do purple 65g.

I guess screws 'll pass bottom part, plate & top part. But KMAC2 used 20 screws, 10 screws to mount top & bottom part. And 10 remain screws to mount plate in bottom part. I really curious about way to mount plate now :p
-
I just wanted to make it clear I paid shortly after the update.
Edit: also might want zealios in my TGR.

Sad to see a brother go, but I'm sure your decision is well grounded. Good luck with a buyer!
Regarding layout, I'm still deciding what to do. I was thinking of doing Purple Zealios 65g for the alphanumericals and main modifiers and arrow cluster, while having MX Tactile Gray as the Esc, space bar, Function row, and Ins-Page Down. Is that too insane? I'm used to heavier switches, so I'm not sure if that's a bit overkill.

When shopping around for switches, am I looking for PCB-mount or plate-mount? I've ordered my Jane with a plate, but not sure that makes a huge difference...

So I'm an idiot and a total newb.
When shopping around for switches, am I looking for PCB-mount or plate-mount? I've ordered my Jane with a plate, but not sure that makes a huge difference...
the pcb is using tx87's pcb, which i believe is pcb-mount switch compatible as well. so it doesn't matter if you bought pcb mount or plate mount switches.
some ppl like the idea that using pcb-mount switches with plate gives optimum stability due to the extra 2 legs mounted to the pcb.
i'm not too sure if it's been scientifically proven or not, but i myself don't find any differences between pcb-mount and plate-mount when used it with a plate (acrylic or metal-type).
but one thing for sure, it does gives u some form of 1337 feeling when using pcb mounted switch LOL!
oh, another thing to take note, pcb-mount switch can always be converted to plate-mount switch by clipping off the 2 extra legs.

I don't think they've gone out, but if the boards are shipping already does that mean they're shipping to yuktsi or the owners? Id like to have mine built by Yong, as well as come with extra PCB and plate.
yuktsi, can I order another set of PCB and plate if I need to?
I am afraid I can't make it, but I will share the drawing later.
I will have a couple of extra pcb and approximate 20 extra plates.
But I am afraid I am not able to sell any of these.
The box was not designed to accommodate anything but the assembled kit. (sorry my mistake again)
Hnnngh. Sorry guys.
The board with be shipped to the owner. 86/87 might need to wait a little longer since I am remaking the plate. :(
No worries! it'll be worth the wait i'm sure. is there any word on the acrylic diffuser?
-
Aww... No diffuser?
Is it possible to order that, extra PCB and plate and ship them separately?
Also, is the PCB the TX87?
-
For some reason, if anyone wants to sell their order, please let me know :thumb:

would a 'NerD2.0 for KMAC' PCB from GON fit in these?
-
would a 'NerD2.0 for KMAC' PCB from GON fit in these?
should work with normal nerd but with usb connector on top i think. standard a87.
-
by 'usb connector on top' do you mean the placement should be slightly to the right? cos all connectors are 'on top' aren't they
-
It should since this case is designed based on the standard a87u from wkl

If you opted for any sort of assembly services, or parts from YongJK.
-
I've gotten two invoices from Yong, one for assembly and I'm presuming the other for shipping. I think that's right.
-
Mine was strictly for shipping to the US - $68

there are a couple of prototypes floating around (one from yuktsi, another from a guy on reddit) if you are looking for the same general thing.

Take into consideration that the prototypes do not have the same level of quality as the final product. It is also pretty cool to own a prototype too. :p

The invoice for shipping fee should be from Yongjk. Sorry for the confusion.

Initial thoughts; it looks amazing, no flaws what so ever. The little white specs you can see are from the styrofoam.
It's nice and heavy, not as heavy as my LZ-FE, granted the LZ does have switches and caps that the TGR doesn't.

Still waiting for mine, just check the tracking number, it returned
"Your item has been processed through our sort facility in ISC NEW YORK NY(USPS) at 9:22 pm on October 12, 2015."
So nothing happened after 4 days. Is anyone in the same boat with me?
Hopefully it will arrive safe and sound.

Yeah that's happening to me right now as well. Whenever that happens it'll take a few days for it to go through customs in my experience but the tracking will reflect that the process only took a day or so.

i know you mentioned towards the end here yutski that you ended up losing money during this GB 8( however the boards look absolutely gorgeous and I really hope you do another run and are able to adjust the pricing so that it doesn't end up costing you out of pocket. I love how fast you ran this GB and by all appearances seems you turned out a quality product in a pretty amazing timeframe !!!! Round 2 round 2 round 2 :))

Nah, I still make some profit, just that the amount is very little. Due to some silly mistakes i made.
Yongjk has been laughing at me, he probably makes more from the assembly services :blank:
Some issues need be solved before I can start the next round.
I am now experimenting with aluminum 6061, 7075 and Alcoa Mic 6.

To be perfectly honest, Its a bit of a mystery to me as well. I originally ordered black but messaged yuktsi about a color option not exactly on the original list. yuktsi said Titanium would be close to that color I showed but I got busy with work and it fell off my radar.
I'm really happy with what came though, I was slightly regretting going with black so I'm very pleased with this surprise! To answer your original question, I think it should be the titanium.

Sorry for double post, but is there a guide for the RGB side leds on the TX87 pcb?

It might be silly to say this right now since everyone is just getting their boards.
But I completely missed out this GB and TGR-Jane has everything I wanted for a custom keyboard.
I would be glad to pick one up if anyone ever thinking of selling their TGR-Jane. :)

But would the USB port on GON's PCB match TGR's USB cutout hole? Just thought that it might be positioned differently.
And there seem like two different kind of PCBs, regular NerD TKL PCB 2.0 and PCB for KMAC, not sure which one would work correctly.
Not much information I can find, sorry about that.

you can buy a gon Nerd with the port on top. Would fit. Might need to modify plate a little as the spacebar stab is upside down on the nerd.

the description for the NerD KMAC PCB says 2.0 so i don't think you have to worry about that

Pretty sure the regular one would work if the usb is on the top as his tkl pcbs have the usb on the right side, but the kmac one would definitely work.

Yeah, they should work. The case work with any standard a87u, or any pcb that is based on the dimension of standard a87u.
But why do you want to use a nerd pcb?

Are you sure about the kmac version ? the usb port is located on some kind of extension och the pcb. which might interfere on the Jane. Yeah, they should work. The case work with any standard a87u, or any pcb that is based on the dimension of standard a87u.
But why do you want to use a nerd pcb?
im thinkingin of using my tx87 pcb on my kaliet a87 case(alu polycarb sandwich) would be nice because of the RBG leds. And gon is the smoothest way to get compatible PCBs. So for me fully understandable. One could get another tx87 or get a a87u from sprit.

the description for the NerD KMAC PCB says 2.0 so i don't think you have to worry about that

strange, last time i asked the same question in this thread and you said they do.
so you were talking about the actual NerD PCB instead of NerD for KMAC?

yepp, http://www.gonskeyboardworks.com/pcbs-and-controllers/60-nerd-tkl-ver20-pcb.html#/0_connection-usb_only (http://www.gonskeyboardworks.com/pcbs-and-controllers/60-nerd-tkl-ver20-pcb.html#/0_connection-usb_only)
On the bottom there is an option to set the usb connection position.

you can buy a gon Nerd with the port on top. Would fit. Might need to modify plate a little as the spacebar stab is upside down on the nerd.

Thanks for the explanation everyone! :thumb:
My friend has a spare GON PCB that I can use IF I am lucky enough to pick up a TGR-Jane. :-X
I have a GON TKL and I really like the way NerD GUI works and how it is very easy to use and understand. Since I am not familiar with all the key mapping or flashing firmware etc, I thought it would be great if GON's PCB works in this case.

Looks like NerD for KMAC will not work with TGR because the USB port extends a little too much like henz said.
It seems regualr NerD PCB with USB connector positioned on top would work just fine.
-
glad we settled that once and for all
-
If you maanged to get a TGR Jane it would likely come with the pcb... no?
Also mine is out for delivery right now, hope it makes it here before I go to work.

Yeah, it comes with the TX87 PCB.

I was just trying to clarify what icyskyz was saying. He is talking about a spare nerd pcb he can maybe use but overlooking the fact it's unlikely someone would sell their TGR and decide to keep the pcb.

Sorry about the confusion, I was just saying that I would swap the tx87 pcb that comes with TGR with nerd pcb, and trying to see if nerd pcb would work with TGR.

The plate is pretty scratched though, I'm not sure what I could do about it myself. I don't have the tools to be able to get a brushed finish and I think polished won't look that good.

I also noticed the PCB has 2 different versions: v1.2 near the spacebar, and v1.3 near the enter, maybe something to forward to Leeku :))

Sorry I snagged that I up the second I saw Flyersfan1 post. I've been following the production of TGR-Jane since the start of the IC thread and I was kicking myself for skipping out on it, it's a shame nobody went with the red aluminum case.

Anyone here making their's "shine" meaning full RGB leds? I wana see this baby at its full potential.

Anyone here making their's "shine" meaning full RGB leds? I wana see this baby at its full potential.
Like for the individual caps? I don't think that's possible with this PCB. I think the PCB just has RGB LEDs underneath, but you can't see them as well with the aluminum bottom.
There were some things yuktsi teased that never became a part of this GB: the acrylic sandwiched layer, the special cable, and the extra PCBs and plates. I hope those are included in Round 2 (if that ever happens), as well as an acrylic bottom to show off the RGB. With the acrylic bottom, we won't have to bother with the TX87 keyboard since this uses the TX87 PCB already.

Why is it not possible for in-switch LEDs? I didn't really look into it much but assumed it was possible with the right diodes/resistors.

I don't believe so, I've seen a few some people put in rgb 2x3x4mm LEDs for their windows keys but I've never seen a full board. The RGB LEDs that do work aren't controllable but rotate through the colors automatically(at least for the sample bag I have).

The switch cutout for led is larger on the Zealio switch, I believe they are working on pcb that supports in-switch RGB

I usually buy my leds, diodes, resistors, and sip sockets off ebay. If you find the right seller within the states it can come pretty fast.
Thanks for the help yuktsi, perhaps someday the Jane owners could get together to have the acrylic diffuser made for a mini group buy.

As a Canadian This is gonna cost me $600 for round 2 (if and when it happens) but I think I have too do it. I have wanted a custom for a while now and put $$$ into my Poker ## and couldn't be happier. I've checked with the DXF file and I'm able to get the diffusers for €24.5 a piece, 3mm matte white acrylic (not sure how thick it should be, the price differences are negligible, add/subtract €1 per mm). At 5x, I'm looking at ~8% discount. This is obviously excluding international shipping. The plates would be cut by the same comp I've used for the Alps plate sth has (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=74337.msg1894340#msg1894340).

Great! But I just realized: How would this work with adding height? I guess it won't work too well as it'll add too much height to the PCB, plate, top case, and switches/caps.
Interested anyway. At least you know you won't have to make more than 20, unless people want extras for some reason.

Lmk if yall decide to do the rgb acrylic layer. I still have to wait for the LEDs for my Jane and I may as well do a full led update in one go if the opportunity allows.

Definitely interested in getting the acrylic layer if it's made. The price looks pretty promising as well. :thumb:

Looks like a bigger cut-out for the brass plate as well. I'm curious as to what the final chosen material will end up being. 7075 is stronger and more expensive but it's prone to corrosion more than 6061 which still may not be a problem. Isn't mic 6 preferred for cast aluminum since it doesn't cut that smooth?

Hmm, I don't think those are 'feet' but a side cutout probably and still angled bottom. Those scree holes are most probably for mounting the brass plates

I don't think I can 'educate' someone on keyboards as I'm still fairly new to this game as well. If you can imagine those side cutout of something like 456gt and etc, this will be similar or with a twist depends on how they design it.
Yeah, it's easier to grab with the cutout on the sides, or else will have to 'pry' it up from the bottom to grab it.

I've been following this thread with much interest, awe, and regret for not joining R1, but am super happy to hear that R2 is in the horizon. This thread is all about what makes GH so great. Yuktsi had a great idea and wanted to make something and share with the community. With help and team work, the whole community now gets to enjoy yet another quality product that would've never happened had it not been for the determination and hard work of those involved. Keep it up. So inspiring. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Then it wouldn't be as close to a KMAC 2 as the Jane is, which is what Yuktsi was going for, but I will agree the cutouts on my LZ do make it much easier to move around.

I'm not a fan of lighter cases, but I realize that certain keycap sets look good with only lighter cases. I don't have my board yet, but that titanium gray has REALLY grown on me and I'm super excited to get mine. I think it's a great compromise of a light color with a dark tint.

I have everything packed. I don't even know where my soldering iron is :D

You better get on that, a board this beautiful mustn't go long un-assembled. :p
I sip socket-ed my vintage browns, added Gateron clear tops, and LEDs. By the time I finish my Jane my Orion will probably be coming in, going to be a busy few weeks for me.

I received mine couple days ago looks fantastic, pics coming later today ;)

If I can make it into round 2 I'm hoping for either red or sky blue. I hope sky blue is an option so bad, every board I've seen with it looks amazing. I'm planning on using my GMK TA set for my blue grey, hoping it will turn out good.

Today, I received my package. I have to wait very very long times to see it. I'm stressed when it's in customs office more months :( Now I am very happy
This board is almost very good. The first feeling is very cool. Surface is very smooth. When I see case, I thought CNC & anodizing is very good. But logo on plate is so simple, I like logo on case than...

Indeed it kinda looks simple on the switch plate, but well, we always use the board with top case :) +1 on tgr logo design.

2) Diode LL4148

Sweet! If someone can get these made in small amounts, I'd be down for one!
Any update on the diffuser? :p

It looks like yuktsi has been working on a diffuser for round 2, if the specs are the same perhaps we could just pick one up from the second group buy to make it easy enough and have it before Christmas.

That would be grand.
The only thing that concerns me about the diffuser is the height it would add to the top case, making the caps sink a little bit. If the top layer for r2 is the same with and without the diffuser, then I guess I have no qualms.

I was wondering the same, I was thinking if it's just a 1mm maybe even a 2mm diffuser it shouldn't raise it enough to cause problems or discomfort typing on the board.

That is a non-issue because the pcb and plate are bolted to the top case. When you add the acrylic layer it will raise the top case along with the pcb.

Oh ok, thanks for clarifying. Then making a diffuser shouldn't be difficult at all, I just need to know who to throw my money at. :p

Pics look nice, very eager to get my grey blue once its assembled by Jong!!
At the same time, I'm kinda sad that v2 with improvements is already available at GroupBuy. It's like spending a lot of money to buy the latest 2015 Mercedes Benz, then they announce a new revamped 2016 model is available before you even get to drive it.
Still looking forward to my first custom keyboard!

maybe, i have a set but i really like writing on the dyesub pbts, kinda liked the JTK keycaps more than GMK atm. So im thinking of selling my gmk sets and getting some more dyesubs, too bad there are not too many colorways to choose from.

If there's an MX Lock option for Caps Lock I'm all ears. I'd even send my board to someone to get modded for that.
-
I messaged leeku and this was his reply:
Hi Steezus,
Sorry for responding without good news.
The FW does not consider the locking switches and in-switches LED brightness as well.
I'll keep in the list of this and consider for future updates.
Thanks.
Hopefully he will add it at some point, for now I'm stuck with a mx lock on my Jane that doesn't work properly. :p

Nice pic.. I want one :p

Welp, I woke up this morning and turned my computer on to find that none of my LEDs are working on my Jane except for Caps and Scroll Lock. Has anybody else experienced this issue? I tried multiple times to reflash the firmware with no luck.
Update: After talking to yuktsi and trying a few things out, flashing to the latest firmware seemed to fix the issue. I haven't touch the setting in weeks so how it went from perfectly fine to not working is beyond me.

That's so weird that it'll just stop working like that. Even with a firmware update, it shouldn't just stop all together. Maybe the update addressed whatever issue there was?
Still: weird.

Yeah it was very strange, literally after flashing the updated firmware all the LEDs immediately turned on. I spent an hour or so before hand messing with JigOn trying to get them to work with no luck, I was afraid something was wrong with the controller on the PCB.

Has anyone else noticed some serious ping? Even with shelf liner in the case its pretty noticeable

I don't have any ping at all but I believe romevi was experiencing some with his spacebar.

I don't have any ping at all but I believe romevi was experiencing some with his spacebar.
My space bar is driving me nuts, and sometimes the left Shift does too. Not sure what's going on, but I know the stabilizers aren't as smooth as my other MX board.
I've gotten used to the ping on those two keys, but I'd like to dampen them somehow.
-
So my keyboard was functioning fine but when I plugged it in again earlier suddenly the SMDs on the black would flash and travel in a circle while the 2 in the front flashes red continuously.
Anyone have an idea on how to fix this?

Try re flashing the firmware and see if that helps
See plug in your keyboard and run 'loadfw'
Please find attached for the firmware

Def' recommended. I had some firmware issues when I got my Jane and all has been a cinch ever since I loaded the latest and greatest.

Try put a layer of 5mm foam under the pcb

Try apply some grease or thicker lube to those stabs.

Yeah I did exactly as Yuktsi suggested and it now works like magic :D
This will be my 1 and only baby from now on haha
Did not think I would like it this much, boutta sell my 356, this baby taking over!! ;D
Edit #2: sorry for the confusion guys, I am selling my 356cl but it's going to a real life friend. I apologize for the tease :(
Edit: Romevi, I think I know why your space bar has the pinging problem. This happen when your stabilizer bar is bent incorrectly. I have 9 different stabilizers and I have tested each one of them thoroughly before installing it because just like you, I HATE the sound.
Anyways, the issue arise when the ends where the stabilizer is bent 90 degree do not perfectly line on a 3D plane. Not sure if that was a good way to put it but if you lay down the stabilizer on a flat surface and observe closely, often time, 1 of the ends will be either rising up from the flat surface or poking downward a tiny bit. You can test this by tipping at 1 of the bent corner, if it moves a bit, that means it's bent incorrectly.
This then translate into the problem where 1 side of the stabilizer will be offset. So imagine when you press the space bar, and release quickly, 1 side of the stabilizer will hit the top first, then the 2nd side will hit. This result in a strong vibration being sent to the 1st end, thus the bar shakes a little bit and the sound resonate with the aluminum case, amplifying the "ping".
I have figured this out from 9 stabilizers and repeatedly bending the faulty one until it's near perfect.
Not sure if I'm just lucky, or maybe this could be a coincidence... I can't say for sure but I am 99% confident in my finding.

WOW! Thanks for that! That was really helpful. Will give it a shot this weekend. I've gotten kinda used to the ping but I'd like to get rid of it if possible.
Edit: How easy is it to remove the stabilizer from the Jane?
-
Well... to remove the space bar you would have to take off the plate... And in this case, that involves desoldering every single switch...
That's why I was about to suggest that you test the stabilizers before I install any of them
Maybe someone else have a secret method of removing them? As far as I know this is the only way unfortunately

Hey guys, so my keyboard got effed up again when I rebooted the computer... The lights are flashing again and this time when I tried to flash the firmware, it gets stuck at the part which prompted me to "press any keys to continue"... None of my keys are registering. Any ideas on how I can maybe reset the controller? Or maybe someone know how I can purchase another TX87 PCB?
-

I've asked leeku. The blinking means the pcb is in firmware flashing mode. It happens when the keyboard is plugged by pressing '~' key. Maybe there's a short circuit at your '~' key.

I' m not sure if that is the case... I desoldered the '~' key but no luck... Maybe I just effed up the controller somehow... :(
Sorry for the troubles
-
Is there a way I can purchase just a PCB + Plate? Or if plates are not available, just a PCB?

Don't think so, and I don't think they're compatible with other TKL cases FYI

Tinpham, that's enough, don't let this drama go further.Don't make the vietnamese's picture is worse in international's friend.
If this is because of the contradiction between you and tamnguyen, take it home and solve it.Some peoples in VN know your transaction of the TgR between you and nguyenkimtam, and yutski knows that, too. And i think nguyenkimtam has enough chat logs to show everybody know your ****ty face.
Yuktsi,so sorry to make youget into this thing.

This is ****ing stupid and I hope the mods remove these posts - please create a 3 way chat anywhere but here. Arguing over the internet isn't going to get what you want.

1st, who is in Vietnam said that he/she know that i sell the TGR to nguyenkimtam, please come to see me if you can. If you cannot give me the name or any person, then shut up.
2nd, where is the screenshot about banking transaction? FB chat log in facebook is nothing to me (and paypal as well) in this case because it can be faked and edited, who knows? I can say that my facebook was hacked by someone then chat with nguuenkimtam at that time, is it ok? Let's wait and see who will win this case by Paypal :))
3rd, as I said, when someone pay you via paypal, you nedd to ship to this person and his shipping address in Paypal, not ship to anyone else. In this case, i am one who paid to Yuktsi via paypal, but i did not receive anything, then i made dispute. It is very easy to understand and very basic, why kids like mrboovn and some of you guys here fo not understand this simple thing?
4th, why nguyenkimtam confirmed that he is keeping my stuffs and even Mr. Gaucaca had reminded him to returned back to me (as Mr. Gaucaca accidentially gave my stuffs to nguyenkimtam), he still not return yet. Does anybody here know the reason behind? This sh!t kid nguyenkimtam took my stuffs and sell in the vietnam gaming gear in facebook, then i will do neccessary things to take my money back. So, Yuktsi now need money to pay for something, and nguyenkimtam can pay on behalf of Yuktsi. Easy :))
I just do what i need to do and want to teach this kid lesson to be human. You wanna keep my stuffs, you wanna sell it, it's ok, then I take my money back. Easy :))

Stop thread crapping and take this to PM. I don't understand why you want to teach nguyen a lesson but you are getting yuktsi caught in the crossfire and freezing his paypal account.

I honestly can't tell who's in the wrong, and this is just based off hard evidence. I can't read the chats, and I'm not considering immature posts here when determining who's right. If nguyen doesn't have proof that he paid for the board, then I'm gonna guess PayPal will take tinpham's side. As mentioned, screenshots can be forged, and I'm almost positive the only proof PayPal will want is if the transaction was passed on to someone else with monetary venues.
Again, I'm not taking sides based off who sounds immature here; this is just complete speculation on what hard facts are presented.
Sorry to drag this on. With this GB done and long dormant, not sure what else can be posted here.
(Updated to hide drama if undesirable.)
Anyway, back to pretty Jane pictures. Here's mine, taken with the best camera I have (a Galaxy S5) with the best lighting setup I have (a desk lamp):

That's way too dark to be cyan. GMK TA is one of the hardest colors to capture imo.

(Attachment Link)
TGR-Jane Round 1 Silver Titanium Gray w/ GMK Triumph Adler & KatzenKinder Emerald HypeMonkey
That looks like Cyan with that lighting, how confusing.
That's way too dark to be cyan. GMK TA is one of the hardest colors to capture imo.
I agree, still haven't seen a good picture.

Still can't seem to fix the ping... Tried foam and rubber.
All keys ping or just some?

What plate? I have a ss plate, never had any pinging issues, although you can feel that there are some extra air under the pcb.

Have you tried taking the plate and PCB out of your housing and making sure that all the switches are completely 'locked' onto the plate? Some of the switches might be somewhat lifted off the plate itself, bending the plate, that is what caused my keyboard to make the pinging sounds when I first assembled it.
I have an aluminum plate also.
Edit: if it is your stabilizers that are causing the pinging sound, then you should check out my advice to Romevi. If it's a regular key that's causing it then this is the only thing I can think of.. I hope that helps man

Nope, no keys that I can see not properly seated. And it's not just stab keys, it's every key. Oh well, it's not horrible at least and I pretty much always have music on anyway

I had ping like that on one of my other boards. What I did was put drawer liner under the PCB, but instead of just a normal amount I added enough to make it flex the PCB ever so slightly upward. This upward pressure eliminated the ping for me.
-
All right, so I finally got around to taking apart my board and adding some lube. It definitely helped a lot, but there's still ping and a little rattle. Since I couldn't remove the plate I had to carefully add some thick lube where I could reach. It eliminated almost all the rebound rattle, so that all that's left is the initial rattle and ping. It most certainly feels smoother, however.

Yuktsi,
I have tried messaging you via PM 3 times without any responses before I decided to post on this thread. I have paid all my fees 3 months ago (delay on my part for the shipping fees, but paid in May) and still have not received my keyboard or any updates. This is for the original TGR-Jane.
Could you please let me know if there is anything outstanding to get my order moving?
-
Also looking for an update on my CE. Thanks Yuktsi

While this has been bumped, is there a list of PCBs that work with this? I think the Nerd TKL works. Any others?

Dont forget that gons space bar stab is flipped, so if you want to use that some plate modifications might be needed.
All a87 compatible pcbs work. So all the ps2avr etc

Hmm, okay. I was hoping to get a PCB that had better RGB customization and was able to brighten/dim the in-switch LEDs.
What sort of plate modification is needed? Will the modification make the TX87 unusable if, for some odd reason, I decide to switch back in the future?

It wont affect the use of the tx87 pcb, here is a link on what needs to be done, ive done it to two boards

I've spoken with chilldude_22 and he spent quite some time answering my question and everything about his keyboard sounds good to me, except that he said he doesn't have the original brass engraved #15 weight on the keyboard.
Sure, you could say it's not much but to me that means quite a bit if I were to pay a hefty premium for the keyboard.
If I can somehow get the original #15 engraved weight back.. I will most likely pull the trigger.

That's awesome but hey, just please remember me when you wanna sell your TGR Jane for me +_+!
I see you're quite a fan of TGR keyboards.
Only keyboard and the first custom keyboard I jumped on GB for in my life is Rama's M65-A and I am excited.
If I can get my hands on TGR Jane 86/87 w/ full plate in Titanimum Gray my life will be complete, until the amazing Duck Lightsaver v3 comes out shortly ;)
I'm planning to get at least 2 or if there's no limit 3 Duck Lightsaver v3 and make my own trinity hehe

Super random, but I don't suppose anyone would be willing to swap the top casings of the Titanium Gray with me? I have the Winkey top. Looking for Winkeyless now. :-[

If anyone is interested in selling their TGR Jane (FMJ Style) please let me know! I love the look of the case. (:

Anyone know how I can purchase an additional TX87 PCB? I've looked into purchasing a GONs PCB but his website seems to be messed up during payment process.

Anyone ever have the RGB go haywire? It's happened to me a few times over the years, but recently it's stuck like that. It'll flicker constantly. I've tried updating the firmware, resetting the RGB settings, and disconnecting it. Nada. Going on day four with no fix. A few times it's fixed itself, but not more than a day after it'll start doing it.

Are you using a TGR PCB or an L3 PCB? This is a known issue on L3 pcbs that usually can be fixed with a firmware update. If that doesn't do it, it's more than likely a faulty voltage regulator chip.

L3 PCB. It's happened more than a handful of times so I'm no stranger to it, but this is the longest it's gone without a fix. This is where I've always gotten the latest firmware:

L3_171209.zip is the firmware I've uploaded, but it was the last one I've used so there's nothing new.

I keep forgetting what PCBs and plates work with this board. Anyone care to give a short list for lazy, ol' me?

He's posting them out at the moment. He might have extras or someone will probably decide they don't want theirs anymore and sell it to you. Or you could wait til next round. Or you could see if someone has a spare Mech27 PCB, they fit as well.
