Odd material, nicely compact layout. Probably RD, though...

And, yes, I know that bamboo is technically not a wood, but a grass...

Spacebar seems a bit short to its right, but any other neutral shade for the keys could look better than this creamy poo, assuming they are made of plastic.
-
I'm not sure the keys aren't made of bamboo as well. Here's a closeup from another site:

I could be wrong, but it seems like an awful lot of effort to paint the grain on the keys. This article (http://www.medindia.net/news/Eco-Friendly-Bamboo-Keyboard-Gaining-Popularity-50274-1.htm#) specifically mentions bamboo keys. Not necessarily the same board, though.
If it does have bamboo keys, I think they'd age very nicely under long-term use.

Well, the tagloot.com page you first linked says "Keys are made of plastic, however they are colored to give you the impression that they are made of bamboo". I'm inclined to believe what it says. :-)

I want one of those wood keyboards, but ~$1000 for one is ridiculous. I am waiting to get one of the metal 'boards majestouch has; too bad the keycaps aren't metal, too. Tax time can't come fast enough.

Not sure you would want Bamboo for the keys, isn't it pretty porous? I would think that over a short period the keys would start taking on oil and such.
We looked at some rather unique keyboards at CES (only 3 month away!) earlier this year, and there was a leather one that was really nice. Problem was what would it look like after a few months of steady use? There was even a suede version for all the Elvis fans out there.
I like the idea of producing products for those who want an environmental and sustainable option, but not sure how practical that really is.
Later.......

Ugh. Just looking at how some people's regular keyboards look, I shudder at the thought of those same people using a leather one. That would be gross.
I wonder what happened to that thread about the leather HHKB? It looked kinda weird. It lost a lot of its crisp, clean edges. I would rather sit in it than type on it.

I totally missed that! I stand (sit, actually) corrected. What a piece of junk!
"It'll make point-four past light speed."

How about someone passing on the idea of making the next "Fast and Furious" about typists. Think of the possibilities, blues vs browns, buckling vs capacitive. Who needs drifting when you could have a NKRO off? The gamers of Tokyo take on the hackers of Cal Poly.
Just a thought!

Eh, whaddaya want for $40?
I thought it was nice of the seller to specify, though.

And someone else does make, but for a higher price, a keyboard with actual bamboo keys.

Link?

The keyboard is sold in kit form. The price is apparently $435, and it is from Marubeni Infotec, makers of computer equipment under the Hacoa brand name.

Ah yes... you can't polish a turd.
-
You could if you bronzed it first...

My brain just exploded. Excuse me while I grab a Lysol wipe.

Obviously you didn't see that episode (http://dsc.discovery.com/videos/mythbusters-polishing-a-turd.html) of Mythbusters...

Wood... what a fashion statement.
In the early 90's Nike came out with a prototype sneaker called the "Air Wood". It was one of their standard cross trainer shoes that was all the rage then. The only difference was that the midsole was cosmetically altered to look like it was made of wood.
I don't think it ever made it to market. I saw this hilarious looking model at one of their outlet stores for $15. The identical shoes without the "wooden" midsole went for around $45.

i think we've found ripster's new trackball :)

Heh. Not even knowing that technique I knew of another one...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coprolite
It's possible for turd to fossilize over millions of years. The resulting fossil can then be polished.
So, in this instance, it is possible to polish a turd, but it takes a very, very, very long time...

I seem to remember a group called the "Sandbenders" from an old William Gibson novel; folks who would make computer cases from very exotic materials... I am reminded of them every time I see these things. Not bad looking but they always seem to have some aspect that make them a no-go, like an insane price (and I've paid $200 for a keyboard; M5-II NIB), a bizarre layout, or being built on some horrible $9 chinese keyboard... talk about polishing a turd!
