Title: Where to buy switches?
Post by: lolkey on Thu, 06 August 2015, 10:48:43
Are there any place to get individual Cherry MX switches that don't cost $1+ each?

Which switch type and how many do you need?

If you can swing buying 100 packs I'd shop here https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_list&c=43 (https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_list&c=43)

If you have time to wait you can try 7bit if you only need a couple switches http://deskthority.net/group-buys-f50/cherry-mx-taking-pre-orders-t2760.html (http://deskthority.net/group-buys-f50/cherry-mx-taking-pre-orders-t2760.html)

You could always buy a used board off ebay depending on what switches you want and desolder them and get them below your price.

Otherwise posting a WTB in classifieds might help you get small quantities.

I've also bought switches off of taobao but you never know what you might end up getting.

you can get Gateron switches I heard, which are Cherry MX knock-offs, but good ones at that, some people say they're even better.

amazon has them for $40 for 120 switches! so that's like 33 cents each

good luck!

Digikey is $0.89 for a single and less than $0.75 when ordering 100. This is for PCB mount clears.

Mouser is about the same price. They have over 8000 in stock currently.

WASD has all kinds of switches, but price is also high, $1.5 each. Not sure if that leads to a higher quality.

You might have the best luck posting in the classifieds thread.

Hopefully someone with a custom keyboard project might have one or two extra switches lying around. ^-^

If you add 12 sets of 10 to your cart the total is $36 shipped. ;)
