well, inform him of the truth: that old keyboards like that are worth $15, max... but since you have a particular eye for it, you will give him an even $20.

decided to do the nice thing and tell him how much it's worth.

No, M15s really go out for that price because everyone goes crazy about it.
I think that a split keyboard can help against wrist pain, but only if it is done right. The Japanese µTRON almost does it, but it lacks mouse control and has a high pricetag. Maltron has a split keyboard with mouse support, it's just that it looks rather large and might not be suitable for programming.
The datahand is the only split keyboard to really take all those things into account. Still, it doesn't look like a conventional keyboard at all and it has a prohibitively high price. Of course, comfort probably hasn't got a price...

Does anyone know how much they cost when they were still in production?
-
I think they were around $250. Give or take some for inflation.
-
AFAIK the original Model Ms were $250 in mid-80s dollars. The M15s were a bargain, and that's before you consider how much they are worth today.

Early to mid 90s, but who's counting? You're right, though, that was the price before inflation, not after, like I suggested earlier.
