Title: GeekHack Debut - With Pictures!
Post by: THSdrummer on Mon, 17 August 2015, 17:29:55
Hello all,

I got into mechanical keyboards not long ago. I spent quite sometime reading up on them before I made my first purchase. Afterall, I wanted a solid keyboard to accompany on my journey through the wasteland on Fallout 4! So I completed my first PC build, and kept browsing for a mechanical keyboard to adorn my desk. I ended up finding a Leopold FC660m with clears on /r/MechMarket, and popped on it. It was everything I wanted: solid, quiet, and the keys are a bit stiff to press. Since then I've picked up a CM Storm switch tester which made me realize that the clicky switches were actually nice. Previously I thought they'd be too loud, and they are too loud for working in the library or office in my opinion, but I decided I wanted a more standard layout with greens in my home. I browsed a discount store I enjoy browsing once or twice weekly when I noticed they had some mechanical keyboards in stock. That's when I picked up my CM Stealth with greens.

In the meantime, I managed to get a set of the Coffee keys from KeyPop and have found a smattering of HKP artisans. I'd love to pick up a Bro or Clack, but I know how difficult they are to purchase. My grail keys are probably the Oktoberfest and Drunk Skull keys.

Anyway, I snapped a few photos of my boards while my roommates were at practice. Probably should've waited for a sunnier day, but the coffee and some artisan keycaps just arrived today and I got them all mounted on my board, so I couldn't wait.

Hope you enjoy the pictures!

Welcome!  :D  Looks like you're well on your way to a full-fledged addiction.  :))  I hope you're able to snag one of your grail keys - those (Oktoberfest and Drunken Skull) can be a bit tough to come by, but with a little persistence and luck it can be done.  :thumb:

Hope you enjoy your time here and manage to survive with your wallet relatively in tact.  ;)

Hahaha, yes. I think I share the same grail key as many others. I've included it in my sig, but we'll see if anything comes of it. I don't feel like I'm in the position to make a classifieds post just yet.

The addiction is growing! Fortunately, I'm pretty picky when it comes to keycap sets. I just can't make up my mind as to which board to get next. I'd like a standard 60%, but with backlit options. The Ducky mini is choice #1. The Pok3r looks incredible though. Just can't decide! One of those and the TK78 by next July for work.

And so it begins....

muahahahaa  :))

All of those look like good options though, so I hope you manage to choose. :P  If you're anything like me, you'll just end up with one of everything though.

Oh, it has definitely begun. Now thqt I've heard about the RGB Pok3r, I think I'll be waiting for that. The main draw for the Ducky over the Pok3r was the various backlit options.

Welcome! And thank you! One of my favorite shows by far. I love me some kitties.

Welcome to Geekhack!

Oh yes, research.  I did quite a bit of that, and actually joined GH to ask for advice, before buying my first mechanical keyboard.  Now I have more than I'd care to count.  And another one on the way.  But I can say that there are now only one or two more keyboards still on my wish list.  It's just a shame that my money has run out :))

Drunken Skull = best keycap :D

Oktoberfest = very nice.

There is Oktoberfest blank too, did you know?  And Oktoberfest Fn key.  And, if memory serves, Oktoberfest Toast ;)

Gotta get them all!  Although I only have two so far.
