Title: My time in the US
Post by: Ngt on Thu, 27 August 2015, 15:01:55
Hello fellows GeekHacker!

3 years ago, I spent 3 months in LA for an internship after which I did a 2-week road trip on the West Coast (~2800 miles). I was with a friend and we did put together a blog. It is mostly in French so I guess most of you won't understand anything unless they google translate it. However my friend is a pretty good photographer hence the blog is filled with really cool pictures (IMHO). I love to take a look at it every now and then. I thought I could share it with you mostly for the pictures rather than the textual content.

Unfortunately the blog is in reverse chronological order so the post are from the most recent to the older. If you want to start from the beginning, you have to start at the end. I'm a bit lazy ATM to look into changing that but if people are interested I'll see what I can do.

https://sorrywearefrench.wordpress.com/ (https://sorrywearefrench.wordpress.com/)

For those wondering, I'm the bald guy.

If people are interested in the travel we did, I'll post a google map with it.

Haha, nice one. I must admit I never thought of this one.

I'm happy you like it. Most of the pictures are from my friend but I tried to learn from him so a few are from myself. :)

EDIT: Typos.

Yeah it was really nice. We had a wonderful time in LA and met awesome people. I wish I had more time to travel the country. So much to see.

I like it too, it looks like 3D modeling even though it was on the parking lot of Walmart back in San Diego IIRC (or Pheonix, damn I'm not sure).

Pics are really great, btw.

P. S. You are such cam**** Ngt hahaha

Thanks for the compliment. I let my friend know. ;)

Well my friend wants to have a subject on his pictures that's why I'm on most of them. In most I didn't even ask to be photographed. According to his saying, he liked me as a subject because I do not "act"when I'm being photographed, I remain true to the current context. Unless I'm having a funny pose! :P At first it felt odd to be photographed so much and then you get used to it.

Really nice collection of your time here.

Really fantastic photos, they really captured some beautiful moments. It's amazing how much we miss in life, and a simple camera helps us notice and experience the beauty of it all.

Even the more simple photos.

I need take some time and travel, I never really had an amazing time traveling the US, Maybe I just need to travel with the right person. Or just try to be less of an anti social werido.  :))

Sometimes we just don't enjoy enough what we have right in front of us. I did enjoy my time there a lot especially because I couldn't stay forever and it was not my home country. There are so many beautiful places in France, yet I'd want to travel USA from East to West completely first than doing it in France. Perhaps it is the same for you and you'd better be traveling abroad first. I think traveling abroad broaden your point of view. Now I'm more aware of what I already have close to myself in my home country and I'm more ready to enjoy it.

It could be nice to organize something like couch surfing but within the GeekHack community where geekhackers could meet IRL and do stuff together (traveling etc.).

This is awesome!  I love the photos, and it looks like a great trip.  :)  Glad you enjoyed your time here!

Also, I will save this to practice my French comprehensions skills.  :thumb:  I've started practicing a bit in the last few days and I'm really enjoying it - some of the things I'd forgotten are coming back to me, and this will be a fun thing to try to read once I'm more experienced.  :D :))

Cool, I'm happy to see that you liked it. Yeah it was really fun. We definitely enjoyed our time here. Went surfing on Venice Beach a few times with a friend we made there that lent us some boards. Really nice guy.

He uses the Canon EOS 5D but I don't remember whether it is the mark 2 or 3. I asked him and I'll post the answer once I have it. ;)

Thank you for the compliments. It is not really the most scholastic french but it is closer to a day to day speech. I'll wish you a great reading then. We tried to make things a bit funny. You'll tell me what you think of the story at the Yosemite Park. ;)

I just got home, but I scrolled through your blog real fast to see what kind of goodies I'll see when I sit down and actually read it... Oh boy.

Your friend can take some amazing photographs! I really enjoy the combination of crazy/awesome nature shots and you two just being goofy or natural.
Pretty great narrative with just the pictures themselves.

nice baldness btw, much good.  ;)

I'm happy that you liked them.

To be honest, Yosemite is far better than Las Vegas! Las Vegas is only about clubs and strip clubs. I shall take a picture of the Las Vegas goodies I brought back. I wish you that you'll enjoy your trip as must as we did!

You don't need to be a social vampire to explore USA's amazing scenery.

Maybe I've just gotten spoiled by it.  :)

Plus travel has been always pretty stressful with my family.

Better go with a close friend or alone if you feel like it. It is nothing compared to traveling with your family. It will depends on your age though.

You Eat the Popeyes fried chicken?

Gotta eat popeyes,    go @ middle/end of the afternoon..  that's when they got the latest chicken.. fresh from the fryer..

Also,  get the cajun-rice, the BISCUITS,  the mash potato,  the curly fries..

But don't eat too many fries, it fills you up

You missed the best part of the country: the Midwest, the Rust Belt, the flat lands, the Corn Belt, whatever you want to call it.  You know what we have here?  Closed, rusty factories.  Abandoned homes.  Larger than average people.  Corn.  Pork.  Tractors.  And cheese.

Yep.  The Rust Belt, baby.  The gem of America.

(get me out of here)

Seems quite nice! At least something to see perhaps not to live there. Sadly we didn't have the money nor the time to do all of that. :'(

I was being a little over dramatic.  Things are fine in this part of the country.

We've got some great stuff to see here.  :thumb:  Nothing flashy that attracts a ton of foreigners, but to be honest that's probably good.
