I press Unwatch in the thread but it still shows up in "Show new replies to your posts"

If you created it, I don't think you can unfollow it

Oh nope, the topics I'm trying to unfollow where just ones I posted on, not ones I created.

This sort of thing comes up from time to time - seems there are a few gremlins in the watch/notify functionality.
