Title: has anyone tried to dye tex acrylic case?
Post by: SlotH42 on Tue, 01 September 2015, 20:24:12
I have been running the idea through my head for a while. I really want to dye my TEX acrylic case purple. I don't want to buy the aluminum one and like the idea of it being somewhat opaque. I imagine it shouldn't  be to difficult. I was thinking of using RIT dye let me know if you all have any suggestions. Thanks.

EDIT: I DID IT!!! check out the album here:

Funny you mention this. I got one to do this very thing. I haven't done it yet though, I'm trying to do one other thing to it first. I'm not sure if RIT dye is enough for the acrylic. Some places say it is, others say it isn't. I do know that you have to get the water very hot to dye plastics like this, so you will have to be careful to not warp the case. I totally warped the crap out of my first one. :(

I have used RIT in the past for disc golf discs. however i have also read about iDYE poly being a solid rout to go for plastics. might need to be a trial and error thing. do you know the exact grade of plastic the TEX case is? I have not been able to find that information anywhere.

No, I haven't been able to find any information on it either. I suspect it is because you can only get the acrylic case through Massdrop, and they aren't exactly forthcoming with any kind of details at all. I know iDye Poly is used with great success to dye caps, while RIT often fails since they switched formulas.
