I cant stand this god forsaken keyboard anymore. I gotta make some extra cash and get rid of this hunk of junk soon. it's doing my freakin' fingers in. To hell with dell keyboards. Does anybody have any tips for dealing with an uncomfortable membrane keyboard?

Replace it with a HHKB? That's the best advice I can give you.
Good luck.

Is it a QuietKey? A Silitek or an NMB one?
In any case, just use something else? :p

Check and adjust your seating position.
Check and adjust your hand/wrist position whilst typing.
Do not lean your wrists on the desk or a wrist rest whilst actually typing.
Take breaks every now and again - walk away from your desk if you can.
Start saving, and buy a real keyboard.

What he said.

Pick up the object next to the keyboard, and start speaking to it.
"Hello computer. Computer?"

Two points for jd :)

I hadn't seen the IT Crowd parody before. But the Star Trek scene is one of my all time favorites from Star Trek IV.

Get a mechanical keyboard.
No, get something even worse than what you have, and learn appreciation.

mmm, I agree.
Buy one of these and use it on your lap.

The Dell will be a godsend. Rowdy makes a good point to check ergonomics as well.
Also, OP seems like it was actually written by Moss from IT Crowd. Reading it in his voice...time to send an email to the fire department. Nice screensaver!

more like 20 times about mechanical keyboards

The big problem is that this keyboard is more or less at it's end of life. The membrane is getting stiffer and brittle for some reason, and it has a few missing and broken keys. I could get another halfway decent membrane for free but it would be used. I could buy a decent one too, but its time to upgrade. There's no arguing that.

GH is over dramatic holy ****
shakes? keyboard addiction?

I highly recommend the Dell KB-522 - the successor to the olde SK-8135. You can find one for not too much money.

You could always buy a cheap (http://microconnectors.com/d07-135stw/) mechanical keyboard while saving up for something better...(just think of the color as a reminder to yourself to upgrade when the time comes)

Only slightly overly dramatic. When i typed that i was coming off of a computer overhaul. New OS, custom kernel, custom themes, and i was writing some custom programs for it. After 12 hours of all that my fingers were killing me because these keys feel like cubes of cold butter.

I typed on an rt7d5jtw for a long while and liked it a lot. I only got into mechanical because I broke the Dell.
You can search around here, that model of Quietkey is very well regarded and last time I checked they go for about $20 NIB

Seriously? He's suffering from rubber dome bottom-out and you advise to get another rubber dome with the same bottom-out issues? Topre hurts fingers if you haven't learnt to soften your bottom-out.
My advice, get a Model F, Model M or a board with MX Clears. Even better would be to get any MX compatible board and put trampoline modded Zealios in. Or a Model F. Or a Model M. The trampoline mod softens the bottom out like orings, but is tunable to your own preferences and is not keycap-dependent. Buckling spring switches have a nice progressive resistance after buckling that prevents hard bottom-out. Clears have a similar progressive resistance, but it's not as effective and you can still bottom out hard.

Yeah, seriously. Topre switches feel great to type on and have excellent, smooth tactile feedback. What "hurts fingers" is having a ****ty keyboard that you have to pound on get a reliable response out of the keys. If you think Topre is that, you're just misinformed.

Because everyone who comes to this forum is handy with a soldering iron and can just swap their switches at will.
Seriously, indeed.

Seriously dude just get any mechanical keyboard... anything other than a RD kb is considered an upgrade to me B)
