I went to visit mechanicalkeyboards.com today to pick up a FC660C, and while I was there I was able to play with a demo model of the MK84. This was a sample with Greetech Browns; however, the final will ship with Gateron switches. Before we dig to far into this, let me tell you about the types of keyboards I use on a daily basis. My primary driver is a HHKB, my second is a KBP V60 Matias Quiet Click. So I like tactile switches, and the only MX type board that I have owned and enjoyed lately was a DAS 4C with Greetech Browns. Okay Onward.
I can't share who makes this board, but it was well made. I didn't notice in flex in the case or plate. The feet were nicely wide pads and the flip out feet were covered in the same nice padding. I didn't have any issue with the board moving while I was typing on it on a tile countertop.
I'm not a backlighting fan so I didn't like that aspect of the board, but it turned off simply and I was pleased with it on the lowest setting as well. The caps felt nice; however, I think they are ABS. Initially I was taken a bit back by the font, but the more I played with it and typed on it the less I noticed it. In fact, I found some of the symbol fonts to kinda give this board a bit more unique look and appeal after a bit of time.
At $89 this board feels like a great buy for a mechanical board. I'd probably switch the caps over to something I prefer a touch more, but if you like backlighting these are nice caps.
