I would ask who got Windows 7 yesterday, but I suppose that anyone here who uses Windows would have been using it already since about last Christmas.

Windows 7 is a pretty nifty OS. I do prefer Linux, but I'll admit that it's for a variety of reasons that are completely non applicable to 95% of the population.

I like that they made the upgrades reasonably cheap. I remeber the Vista Home Premium upgrade was about €200-300... And that was for a turkey of an OS.

I got 1 Home Premium 32-bit license, 1 Home Premium 64-bit license and 1 Professional 64-bit license for $30 each through the education program thing they've been doing.  I'm not sure how I qualified since I graduated from college about 9 years ago, but I took advantage of it.

And before all you Linux guys jump on me I've installed plenty of Linux machines at a local non-profit and nope, I'm not a fan (http://geekhack.org/showpost.php?p=127434&postcount=38).

Are you trying to start a flame-war in a flame-broiled burger thread?

I've got a key for 32 and 64, put 32 on my athlon XP box and the aero stuff has some weird artifacting, I think it must be the video driver (nvidia 6800).

My Quadro is working fine here (64-bit). I have been having problems with my laptop's Intel video driver crashing, but Windows recovers it with no problem.

Intel video sucks.  Other than that, though, everything's been great.  The only thing I am not a big fan of is the blue splash screen that shows when you lock the desktop.  I wish it just had the little box over the wallpaper like XP.

By installing Windows 7 on my work desktop, I might be breaking some rules, so that bright, blue splashscreen could attract some unwanted attention when I step away from the desk.

You can change the background of that screen. I changed mine to something that looks less.... garish?

I like the look of the default logon screen, it's just a shame that the image used is of such low quality. It's fine on lower-res screens, but on a 1080p monitor it looks awful and upscaled and is covered in terrible jpeg artefacts.  It's such a shame, cos I think it's otherwise a really nice image.

Yeah I've been using windows 7 rtm on my hp touchsmart, which is the official manufacturer final release for about two months now.  Windows 7 I think was basically built for hp touchsmarts.  Other than that capability, and maybe a little faster boot time, and new taskbar which i'm not sure that I even like, I can't really see much difference between it and vista.

Other than the fact that it works?

Definitely. To me, Richard Stallman is like the opposite end of the extreme of Steve Ballmer.

It works about as well as vista.  Some things work on my touchsmart that didn't work in vista, but I think that's mainly cause like I said, windows 7 was written specifically for touchsmarts.

Right now, I'm rebooting my touchsmart and it's hanging shutting down.  It still has problems where icons won't show up without refreshing, and hangs and you need to reboot the explorer once in a while.  I had the same problems with vista.  Really as far as stability and functionality I have about the same problems with vista as I do with 7.  Functionally if it wasn't for the changed taskbar I wouldn't know it was any different than vista.
