Title: Winkeyless 60% cases
Post by: trenzafeeds on Thu, 17 September 2015, 16:17:43
Is that a thing or not. I'm not talking about hhkb-style winkeyless, but rather missing winkey like this:

Not a winkeyless case per se, but similar to the above.

It's not mine but the details are in the link ;). Couple of bits of plastic on top of switches without stems more or less.

It seems to have a spacer

Don't know about the case, but you could just get a winkeyless plate and get 99% there, it would look like the keyboard Hzza shared

You can get a silver case for example, maybe a TEX, and a stainless steel plate made, it would pretty much look winkeyless with a small bit of gap

Most 60% cases are tray style cases, as it makes the most sense for the form factor. There are some that aren't e.g 356mini, but most are trays..

To have winkey blockers in a tray style case you would require the PCB to have cutouts where the winkeys are, otherwise it would not be possible. Since no PCBs are like this it's rare for 60% cases to have winkey blockers.

If you look at the duck viper you will see what I mean. It has blockers at the ends and it's a tray style case. The PCB has cutouts to allow it.

Ive seen a KMAC Happy with 1u blockers added to achieve this. Not sure on the PCB cutouts mentioned above.

Are tray-style cases a uniform height? You can use the Cherry blockers that Signature Plastics sells to get a similar effect, although I don't know what the tolerances are or if there will be gaps etc. I doubt it will look as clean and nice as Hzza's link, though.
