WTF indeed???

I've tried the das III and much prefer the new TVS Gold which uses identical key switches and costs the equivalent of 25 USD.

Oh, I forgot, the TVS doesn't have the USB ports.  I guess that's the reason the das s has a $285 ticket  :)

Who would buy that when you can get one from metadot for $125-135?  Ridiculous.

$125-$135 is also ridiculous.

Comparitively speaking, not really considering that Filcos will run you about the same.  Unless, that is, you consider Filco prices ridiculous, too.

The politcally correct term is "intellectually challenged" tax   :)

No, I still love my Filco FKBN104MC/EB keyboards because the matt coating on the key caps hasn't worn off yet  :)

Both the das and Filco keyboards may be contract maufactured by Costar, but I feel the overall build quality of the Filcos is superior.  At least, the typing experience is superior.

Well, the marketing director really is from Germany but carry on. Let me get my popcorn first.

Good point.  Many of the white people in this part of Texas are of German descent.  A lot of the towns also have German names:

Boerne
Schertz
Gruene
Pflugerville
etc.

Pflugerville

That name just make me laugh for some reason.

"More Money Than Sense" will certainly buy it, then boast to their friends that they bought a bargain Das for a meager $285.

That would be me :)

That price is ridiculous, but it's going to help me feel better when I do lay cash down for a filco tenkeyless.

That is ridiculus. Who in their right mind would pay nearly $300 for a keyboard with no letters on it that's lower quality than a $20 Model M?

I met two Deck owners that tried to convince me that they had the "touch and feel of the old IBM keyboards." It drove me insane that they had two $160 keyboards and spent most of the time hunting and pecking on them.

Could be worse, they could have Optimus Maximus keyboards...

Well yes, they might lack some details like real tactility or clickyness, but you know, that's just cost cutting. Otherwise I'm sure it would have cost $500!

The issue there is that Deck keyboards are designed for gaming, where linears rule supreme. Of course, amongst the ignorant masses, Mechanical = As good as the Model M.

Of course, I doubt that half of the people who make such comparisons have ever used a Model M.

A friend (customer) has a Das. He loves it. Of course he had gone thru 3 Logitech wireless keybds, and his mom had used up one. So, to him, the Das is great. My wife tried it for a week (she used be a 130 wpm typist) and gave it a thumbs up. Her regular keybd is a Model M Space Saver, as is mine. I have to use it when I go to his house to work on something, and I find it to be OK, but a Model M it ain't. Totally different feel.
