Only 3.
One old desktop that I bought about 5 years ago.
One 2 year old laptop (Dell latitude D630).
One 1 year old home build desktop.

I have 5

Portables
13.3" Macbook (10.6.1), 10.2" Lenovo S10 (XP)

Desktops
Dell Dimension L800r, Dell Dimension 8200 (Both XP Pro)
Sony Vaio RS430G (XP Pro, and awaiting Ubuntu 9.10)

I only have a matching monitor for the Sony, and I'm seeking Monitors/Keyboards/mice for the others.

Part of what keeps my interest in keyboards and mice is having missing pieces and the urge to have only complete standalone setups. I like the idea of having a home computer lab. If I had only one computer, I'd stick with my CH trackball and HHKB. Having more computers/towers around justifies keyboard and mice purchases.

Let's see...

I have 6:
4 desktops
2 laptops

And only one is on the level of M.W.'s, I'm sure.

I have 16 or so;
My current workstation
My old workstation
My laptop
My netbook
My mini-itx router thingamajig
My 2 Sun Ultra 10 (One is dev webserver, the other is planned to be backup server)
My 2 Apple eMacs
My silicon graphics O2
My 2 Ericsson E-box (which I count because they're x86 based)
My old old workstation
An old 486 I got off my high school, it runs FreeDOS, but is in storage
Two Pentium 100MHz I got from the same place, also in storage

Yeah, that about covers it. I am hoping to be able to move to something bigger soon (that is, I hope to get a real job), so that I can rethink the whole computing situation. As it is now, I have about 3 stationary computers actually running at home at the same time, due to noise and heat. If I had more room it'd be actually worthwhile having the eMacs being thin clients, for example.

Yeah, this...

Varies between 3-4 and over twenty.

In my defense, I buy em, sort em out, and sell them on, or cannibilse them to make others to sell on.

My own, actual computers, is 4 (If you count the Missus Notebook and the Rendering Rig).

Oh my, that's a good question.

Just what's technically mine, and not counting family members' computers that I admin.

Desktops -
1 Mac 512
2 Mac SE's (upgraded to SE30's)
2 Mac Plus's
2 Apple II GS's
1 Mac II
1 Quadra 800 w/ PPC Card
1 PowerMac 7600
1 G3 Beige Tower
1 PowerMac G4 AGP w/ CPU Upgrade Card (main desktop - 10 years old and still ticking)

Laptops/Handhelds -
1 Powerbook 540
3 Powerbook 1400's
1 Powerbook 3400
2 G3 iBooks (1 Blueberry 300Mhz, 1 White 800Mhz (what I'm typing this on))
4 G3 Powerbooks (3 Wallstreet/PDQ's, 1 Lombard)
3 Newton eMates
1 Newton 110

Admin another five, including a Pismo, an iPod Touch and an Acer Netbook (XP), but most are in storage.

Oh, and a couple of Roland synths that I'd consider computers despite being musical instruments.

As you can see, I think I have a problem only Computers Anonymous can address properly ;)

Glad you didn't ask about the typewriters...

Dude! Are you a collector or are you just really bad at throwing stuff out? I'm jealous of the early handhelds that you have there. I've got a soft spot for early portables that resembled souped up calculators more than they resembled actual computers.

I only have two computers that are used regularly and one that's used only when I need to check a website in IE6 (yuuuuck). My main rig is a Mac Pro 8-core with one drive for WinXP run through virtualization. I also have a laptop which is mostly used by my wife around the house when I'm not toting it along for client meetings. My IE6 computer is a Dell Latitude 600.

Whenever I move up, I always sell my old machine. I don't have space to collect them and I can't justify not using the proceeds of the sale to give myself a discount upgrade.

I'm thinking of adding a mini book style PC to my collection though. While the virtualization of my Windows OS on my Mac is real convenient the extra few seconds it takes for programs to load or pages to come up sometimes really add up and disrupt my thought process... but to that end, so does getting distracted on Geekhack.

2! One (http://geekhack.org/showpost.php?p=97085&postcount=40) as main machine, and another "junky" one (build from leftover parts) as backup (in case the main one dies) and to experiment (ie. checking "non save" software)

Regular use:
Infrequent but fully assembled:
Plus enough parts to probably build four or five more.  I've got some more dual-Xeon boards and an SAS controller laying around for when I build my new file server.  I'm thinking about four to eight 1tb to 2tb hard disks striped and mirrored...

5 desktops if you include a Mac SE (dual floppies + external HDD).

A little of both, I think. It just sort of happened.

Yeah, the eMates are cool tech - closest thing to stock Steampunk anybody's ever sold mainstream retail. They're buckling tube keyboards, btw. A bit stiff and a bit small (being essentially the first netbook), but not too bad. They're great for things like NaNoWriMo and just general on-the-fly stuff. In some ways Newtons come closer to the original concepts for the Mac (pre-Jobs) than what actually evolved - instant on, long battery life, solid state storage, semi-modeless infinite scrolling paradigm, rugged as hell appliance, etc.

The MP110 is cool too (especially considering what I paid for it), but I find myself yearning for a MP2K or 2100 :)

I used to have a HP 712/60.  Cute little box; bought it from my college's sale-of-spares shop.  I like CDE; it's a classy environment even today.

The WinNT box is a little Motorola PowerStack which is riser-card based-- not quite pizza-box thin but close.

Currently, I only have one pizza-box computer but I used to have an old Hewlett-Packard Vectra XM Series 3/90 from 1995. It had a 90Mhz Pentium and 64MB of RAM. It ran well on Windows 95 and did the job quite nicely.

I never had an NLX or LPX form factor PC, but I had a Centris 660AV that was 17" wide and worked well in the entertainment center.  Ultimately I got rid of it because Motorola 68K became ridiculously obsolete.

I just didn't have a use for it anymore.  For a time I had it set up effectively as a movie machine with an old Laserdisc player hooked up, but the novelty wore off quickly.  I tried running M68k Linux on it but it took about a week to compile a kernel.  I tried Seti@home just for kicks and it took several weeks to process one packet.

For a time I had an IBM PS/2 Model 95 (386 tower with 8MB Ram and microchannel bus) set up with Linux, and it took about a week and a half for a single seti@home packet.  Never compiled a kernel on that one.

20 at present,  plus one for a customer...

I junked 20+ recently.

Building an i7.

This thing is an AMD Phenom 9550. Good enough for XP.

My wife has an E8400.

The customer machine is a Phenom II X3 720. I've built several of these for different people. They work out well.

Why would I want to though?  If I were going to pick a Microsoft OS for that, it'd be either an early NT variant or OS/2.  The PS/2 Model 95 was built to be a server or high end workstation, not a run-of-the-mill desktop PC.

I'm pretty sure that this particular computer was a Novell server in a previous life, probably 3.12 or older.

I still remember how to install sound drivers via MCI control panel.  I had a Win 3.1 box with a Sound Blaster Discovery CD-16 kit, which was a $400 kit with a sound card with integrated MKE-Panasonic CD interface as well as the necessary 2x drive.  It came with Aldus Photostyler and a bunch of other tools.  Cool stuff.

I've got Two:
Dell Inspiron 530

Dell Dimension E520

The Inspiron is the first computer that I've actually bought whole.  When it's predecessor was starting to crap out I didn't have the time or the desire to build a new one so we ordered up this Dell.  The Dimension is a hand-me-down from my parents.  They had just moved away from their technical support guru (me) and were having problems with it so they bought a new one and shipped me the castoff.  I put a clean install of Ubuntu on it and it hasn't had a single problem, well except for the 17" monitor that will be replaced just after christmas.

Well, lets see...
I got 6, soon to be only 5:

Tandy 102 (best portable keyboard ever, with 32k expansion)
Tandy 200 (like the 102, but bigger screen, not expanded)
Apple IIgs w/ dual 3.5" drives, dual 5.25" drives, 1 meg RAM and standard RGB monitor
Generic P1 @ ~200 Mhtz, it's running my Xeltek Superpro II chip programmer (ISA slot)
HP 64110A "portable mainframe" computer w/ logic analysis boards and probes (selling)
HP zv6000 laptop (5 year old piece of junk lappy. Should have got a desktop.)

The 64110A is quite cool/retro/rare, but too big/not useful enough for me, and the guy at hpmueseum.net is going to buy it from me. See some pictures here:
http://picasaweb.google.com/arf.at.sjv/HP64110APortableMainframe#

It has a very nice keyboard, I might add.

I've got 4: ASUS EEE PC Netbook, ibook G4, and two desktops, one of them some 64 bit AMD IIRC and the other a fairly new intel Dual Core. I used to have 5, but I threw the server out recently.

Heh, my laptop is called ICARUS... Was the computer in the pic named for the AI in Deus Ex too?

And I have 'em all.  I LOVE emulators.  It's about the only gaming I'll do these days.

I would hope so.  The funny thing is I had to use a "tool" O2 gave me to see that pic at work.

Nope I actually use a real NES and cartridges!  I just scored an NES Advantage joystick off ebay for $3.50.  The seller claims it had very little use and sat on a shelf.  It is brown on one end from the sun so I will see if I can whiten it up a bit.  otherwise it is like new and works great.

Picked up another one from uni today, so whatever I had before + 1. I'm thinking I'll replace my current gateway/server with it, because it's got a bit more oomph in it, some day. Up until then I'll play around with vserver on it, soon as I transplant some ram into it.

I used to have a bunch of computers - Mac Mini, a gaming tower I built, and 2 Inspiron laptops but now I'm down to one Inspiron.  I'll be using my Filco at my office where I run a really nice Optiplex 755, and I might haul it home with me so that I can write at my desk.  I guess I should probably just get a Happy Hacker for the house, right people?
