Title: Can't decide if I want to buy a NovaTouch
Post by: tofgerl on Tue, 22 September 2015, 05:05:53
There's a sale on NovaTouch on the biggest webstore in Norway, and they have 19% off NovaTouch TKL, but it's effing ISO. And with CM's already nonstandard bottomrow, this keyboard will be a ***** to get a proper set of caps for. Wouldn't it be better to buy MX-stems and get a RealForce?

But then RealForce isn't sold in Norway, so it would cost almost twice as much with imports and freight and all that crap... Thoughts?

RealForce also has a "non-standard" bottom row, speaking from the perspective of most MX keyboards, which is, for all intents and purposes, what you would end up with once you switched the sliders.

AFAIK Novatouch has a standard bottom row?  At least the ANSI version does.

I can confirm that the ISO novatouch has a standard layout (including bottom row).

As far as the board itself, it's good if you like 45g topre, but if you care at all about the sound of the board, the spicebar silencing mod i really necessary. The stock keycaps are also nothing special, and I would highly recommend switching them out.

I agree with what rowdy said, but in addition-

CM use a standard bottom row (& layout) on their most popular board, the Quickfire Rapid, yet another factor in its popularity as a great first board. But I believe some of their others like the Quickfire TK do not.

To my eye, both the ANSI and ISO Novatouch's use the standard version of their respective layouts. So you should be good to go :thumb:

Can confirm, the Novatouch is the only TKL Topre board with a standard bottom row layout.

Well, I'm certainly glad to hear that! I have a TK already and looked at that bottom row and an image of the Novatouch, and I guess I let my prejudice run wild...

Ordering!

Nope, couldn't do it... I'd rather pay more for an ansi board.

the novatouch's topre switches' centre stems feel shaky compared to other topre boards (such as the realforce) because it uses the cherry keycap mount, if you place your finger flat on your cherry switch keyboard and wiggle left and right, then the keycap wiggles as well, the novatouch has the same problem due to its different centre stem design. other topre boards dont have that problem
