Title: Thinking of modding these two boards I picked up...need some input.

These might be alps switches, or some form of alps compatible switch

Not sure what type of switch this is, but I'm sure it's on top of a rubber dome as it feels incredibly mushy.

PS, also pretty new to these forums, and just getting into the mech side of things.

Both look like slider over rubber dome. The first one by NMB (http://deskthority.net/wiki/NMB_dome_with_slider) and sadly not Alps-compatible. The second keyboard looks like it was built by Fujitsu - and yes, those are usually very mushy.
