for me it sounded like

The first time was probably years ago and I have forgotten.
The first time recently felt like I was coming back home to keyboards again, it was everything that MX blue and green was trying to be.

Heh, I only used the keyboard once and it was like 3 years ago.

I have four of them here, I should use them more but I'm breaking in this CODE keyboard before I take it in to work.
I was using an SSK at work until someone complained quite bitterly about it.

Lol, do you know any good deals on where to get a model m? even if it's a low quality modern one, i could mod it.

The only source I know sold her business and retired (AFAIK).
You can have a look through classifieds, or maybe even eBay (two of mine came from eBay).

If you are willing to mod it, it's worth waiting for a good deal. Set up an eBay saved search for "IBM model m" or similar, and wait until you find one at the price you want to spend. I got mine for $40, but that seems to be on the low side for eBay.
If you can find a nearby computer recycling center, that might be a good place to look as well. If you can pick it up locally you'll save on shipping.

My SSK should be arriving any minute now. Have mixed feelings on how it's going to feel like to type on it after typing on my buttery smooth 55g Topre.
I LOVE the sound it makes though.

Thanks, I'm gonna head to a bunch of thrift shops then and look for the keyboards. Wish me luck.

You will be supremely lucky if you find a Model M in a thrift shop.
I recommend buying a new Unicomp. While most people agree that quality control has slipped since the Reagan era, a Unicomp is a real true Model M built on the same equipment in the same factory as the vintage ones.
Plus, you can get colors, more compact layout, native USB, Windows keys, and - a warranty.
See how you like that before you move into vintage stuff.

I agree with you here fohat. Another thing is you can get the 103-key model with the Win/Menu keys as well. Kinda nice to have if you need them. I'd just recommend the Classic (not Ultra-Classic) so you know what you're getting yourself into as well.

See I would but a lot of people complain about the quality control like the plastic not being molded as good as the original or keys being crooked and stuff, plus I'm a gamer too so a PS/2 connector allows full n key rollover which is dear to my heart.

The QC issues are real but minor. I would not even blink at that particular issue, unless I was seriously into it.
Forget using a Model M for gaming if you need more than 2KRO.
Get a Model F for NKRO.

Hmmmm, looking at stuff about the model f makes me like it, they're both great keyboards.

Forget about N key rollover with a Model M keyboard. It is just 2 key rollover. That is just gamer hype to be honest. You will understand once you start using a Model M. Another thing, I did post a picture of my Unicomp PS/2 Model M. You can zoom to full resolution with it and see the key characters for yourself. It's not bad and the keyboard can be had for under $100.
This is an excellent deal for a buckling spring keyboard.
