Title: Cherry g84-4700 Num Pad $59.99 in CDW Outlet
Post by: SamirD on Mon, 28 September 2015, 08:20:59
I ran across this while looking for something else, and it doesn't sound too bad.  I read some threads on the ML switches here on GH and it seems to be a love/hate thing.  I'm tempted to try them out myself, but not at this price.  (hint, CDW will drop the price every week on something sitting in the outlet that isn't purchased, so I'm sure these will come down.)

They have two in stock:

So now they're down to $39.99.  :thumb:

I love ML switches! :)

These are just 21-key number pads, though. I don't have anything against number pads—but it'd be a good idea to mention that in your post, so those of us who already use full-size KBs won't spend time reading the thread and following the link(s).

Modified!  Sorry about that!

At $40, they're tempting.  If they come down more than that I might bite.

Down to $31.99 now.  I think that's going to be the bottom.  If they drop under $30 I think they will be too tempting not to try.

I wonder what the G84-4000s are going for right now. At one point, they were around $20-30. You could get a full ML keyboard (like this squished 65-75% layout) just to check out for really cheap. I've never seen an ML numpad but I think if one could find a G84-4000, that'd be a little more useful to try. Maybe...

I just did a search for the g84-4000, but I couldn't find any info on them.  The g84-4100 series seems to use the same switches, but it's more than these keypads.

Besides, I'd use a keypad for sure if it's decent enough as I work with numbers all the time.S

Well, these are now down to $15.99.  They don't even show up in a search of the outlet anymore, but one is still available.  I got the other one for $26 out-the-door.  :thumb:

So this isn't as bad a switch as I thought it would be.  Sure, it is scratchy as can be, but I think they will smooth out over time with use.  The keycaps are shallow and the travel is pretty short and these are linear, but I'm going to try changing the keycaps to regular height and see what happens.

For $26 and change, these are a pretty good deal if you need a external keypad that isn't some crappy rubberdome.

I'd rather spend the money on a g80-3700 (mine was $30), but can't argue with how tiny it is. The 3700 is quite large.

But that's a full keyboard.  If you need just a keypad to go with a laptop or something like that, I haven't found a cheaper deal for a decent pad, especially one that's new.

The 3700 is not a keyboard, but a keypad. Has PS/2 passthrough for use with other Cherry boards.

Sorry looked at the wrong pictures before posting.  Definitely a nice keypad, but it's really hard to come by from my quick searches. :(

So after using this a few times on some 10keytyping tests, I've found that I really like it and my speeds show that I'm as quick as I am on the Ms ten key.  The MY switches are interesting.  It is like they're a shorter throw cherry blue that isn't as smooth, but since the throw is so short, you don't really get a chance to sense how smooth or not smooth the stroke is.

Those are not MY switches they are ML switches. :thumb:

THANK YOU!  I thought I might have messed this up, but didn't come back and check.  :thumb:
