I like the idea of front-printed arrows, but I wanted to match the style of the original ADM-3A terminal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ADM-3A), which is the basis for Vim's HJKL nav.Show Image(http://www.catonmat.net/images/why-vim-uses-hjkl/adm-3a-hjkl-keyboard.jpg)
More info here (http://www.catonmat.net/blog/why-vim-uses-hjkl-as-arrow-keys/).
After sleeping on it, I am definitely going have the font made smaller, I just hope SP doesn't rake me over the coals by charging me the full price again. I bought a bunch of the Vim Caps Lock replacement keys, so hopefully selling those will offset this (probably) failed experiment.
I had some Vim keycaps made, what do you think?
I'm going to get the letter legends smaller, I think.
Fantastic :D, it's nice to know that we have some Vim users around. And those caps are really nice. Waiting on my DSAs from Signature plastics.
I'll also mention that there is a thread (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=38996.0) for Vim fans :)Probably about 10-15 years on and off, I've tried other editors but I keep coming back to vim, it really helps that my dotfiles can follow me around. :)
Hello all, I've been traveling and missed these new replies till now. I am glad to see there's been some interest!
I paid the regular tiered price for the caps locks (x cost per number of keys purchased), but on top of that I had to pay a couple hundred dollars for the new hjkl legends (four keys x two profiles).
The good news is that Melissa sent me a new set of keys with smaller letter legends, because she made a mistake in putting the order in. It's been said before, but she's great. I'm still away from home, but I'll take new pictures once I'm back.
I bought a bunch of extras, hoping I can make back my investment. I have everything in hand and will be selling them soon. I'd love to get some input on what you think a good price is (I'll also sell the caps lock separate from the hjkl keys, in case folks don't want both).
They look very nice, but the font is larger than the rest of the alphas, as someone pointed already.I agree (SP put the order in wrong), and I have new versions waiting for me at home. I'll post updated pictures when I return from my travels.
The only way is vim. You put in the time to learn her and she never stops giving back

It would be great to take a look at them.
Time for a Group Buy!
Would GMK make an HJKL set with pad printed arrows?I figured GMK's MOQ would be too high, but I have considered JTK (once they finish their initial runs) or Gateron. I would like these in Cherry profile, for sure. I'll see how well these sell and maybe try that next.

Agreed. I'll have to figure out how to talk to them about custom orders. A brief search of the interwebs didn't bear any fruit last time I tried.Would GMK make an HJKL set with pad printed arrows?I figured GMK's MOQ would be too high, but I have considered JTK (once they finish their initial runs) or Gateron. I bet the more feasible option would be Gateron in dye sub. JTK is not taking custom orders at the moment.

Signature Plastics sells a VIM key.

This is more than the VIM Key, it's the HJKL keys as well.
Yes, please be sure to update on this thread when you post the the buying thread. At such a low price there's no way I can't buy a set or two.
Ordered a set of each -- expect you'll see a bit of pushback on that shipping, though -- $10.00 is a little stiff for shipping a few keycaps. Good luck with the sale!
Sweet! No need to refund the difference on mine since I did buy seeing the shipping as it was. I expect you'll sell out fast now that that's changed, though. Thank you again for making these available!Ordered a set of each -- expect you'll see a bit of pushback on that shipping, though -- $10.00 is a little stiff for shipping a few keycaps. Thank you! I saw that about the shipping, and I apparently missed the shipping field. I thought it was going to fill the shipping based on actual location. It looks like yours will just be a couple bucks, and I will refund you the difference when I make sure I did it right.

These are really nice but I'm not sure whether I will ever have MX with caps in these profile. I was however looking for these before I went Topre.I'm not sure there's a easy answer for Vim and Colemak, but I think Aimee makes a good argument (https://sermoa.wordpress.com/2011/12/16/colemak-and-vim-but-what-about-hjkl/) for going with the flow and using HJKL in their normal Colemak positions. It doesn't do much for the aesthetics if you used these keys, so I guess I am doing the opposite of making a good sell...
I'm looking for some vim advice. I learnt to touch type at the same time I learnt to use vim. The issue is that I learnt to touch type in colemak so I have become semi-proficient in vim but in colemak. For me my HJKL position is a little unorthodox. I know there are addons that map qwerty to colemak vim positions but this is slightly redundant for me as I never really learnt vim with those positions. But on the other hand there are benefits to using the qwerty positions. HJKL for example is very accessible in qwerty, arguably more than colemak.
Is anyone else in a similar situation. I might still buy these as I do like the look of some nice legends.
I just order the full set (capslock x2) and the hjkl as a Dvorak vim user. Although some of the aesthetic is ruined, the concept is still good. I know I'll always have the caps lock replacement on my keyboard. The direction keys will probably rotate through.

Welcome to Geekhack!
Are you a Vim user?
mx only? I want it on my hhkb ..
mx only? I want it on my hhkb ..
I'm open to it, if the ones I have sell, and I can figure out who could make Topre keys...
I definitely like that option, but that may just be because it's easier for me...mx only? I want it on my hhkb ..

Woudn't just getting sliders be the better option?
I'm going to put my order in eventually, been spending way too much money lately.

I think it would be too costly and time consuming to made a topre version, ctrlalt should be having sliders going up on their store soon anyways.
In other words, does a board with blanks have to be all blank to look good?

Personally I think so, yes, but others might feel differently.

Not necessarily. (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=49563.msg1947825#msg1947825)

Yep got them here in the uk. You've already seen pics of them on my Planck :)
Placed my order! Both DSA and SA kits. Full support :thumb:
I'd like to see them in a SA Retro kit, so it's time to search for it.. ;D

I'm not expecting you to have followed my website changes and cash flow travails (mostly took place on Reddit (http://"https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/4ntkyb/buying_the_relaunch_of_vimcapscom/"), since that was where 95% of my orders originated), but my store used to have Shopify as a backend. When it did, shipping to Germany cost $13-something to which I added $1.50 for shipping materials and "handling."
Since I moved to PayPal as a backend, shipping is cheaper, allowing me to do "free shipping" for US and international orders, but I made the change at the same time as I made a general price hike. Selling Vim keycaps is not a good business, and I didn't really expect it to be.
I'm sorry you feel cheated. Send me back the keycaps and I will refund you the full purchase price.
Those DSA ones look great. I will definitely pick them up even if I am not using VIM :)
