Title: **** you paypal
Post by: jonathanyu on Sat, 03 October 2015, 11:05:30
my paypal is limited again for no reason.  they just ask me to send more and more document to them.  and now they say when the time I open my account was not 18, so my account must be closed.   :-\ they sent me a message that I can remove all my cards and bank account, but obviously I can't.....and the worst part is I got funds in my account.

they steal money from wherever they want, worse than bank.  they want my driver license, address, date of birth, social security card..... I guess I will just give up on that account

Seems that this is happening more and more here lately.  Maybe its time to switch to a new payment service.

I wonder if Google Wallet would be any better.  I haven't read over their policies, but I assume they would have something comparable to PP.

I've used it quite a few times to send money to friends when out eating or something like that.  I'm not really sure how it will handle transactions and things like that though.

Damn, pretty sure I was 14 when I got my paypal account so I could be next.  At least I never leave money in the account just like I'd never store it in the same cupboard I keep my badly behaved dog's food...

Google already know half of my shopping habits and my address but I will not be linking my bank with the hivemind, I trust them even less!

I am sure that once I able to remove my bank account and card, I would never connect them again. actually I will probably stop using paypal after this

I just used it to send money as usual, but they said something like it's different than my usual habit   and they said they need additional information since it's a new account , my account is four or five years old already.
They first started at asking my full bank account number, phone number.  and they started asking my address, photo id.  and they now asking my social security card.

This is why I was so careful with my Paypal accounts while I was under 18, and when I did turn 18 I started a completely fresh account..

Rule number 1.  If you receive any correspondence asking any of the documents listed here, get their phone number and call them direct.  This sounds like text book fishing scams.

Or you can do it like I do, and ignore those notifications unless you can't actually use the account.  I have gotten then before and ignored every one.  Never had any account with PayPal, eBay, or any other site I shop at online froze, blocked, or closed.

To the op, if you have already sent these items, I would delete all bank stuff, and close the PayPal account, along with keeping a close eye on your credit.

my paypal got locked already, and they don't let me closed my account or remove any cards and bank account.. so pretty sure it's not a scam.

i mean, i only gave the documents that they listed on my account.
i didn't give them my ssid card because it's not listed on there...
but yeah, i guess i will just cut the cards i linked to the account

This is what happens when you've been on PayPal's good side, but still get flagged for running a high volume GB

Sorry this happened to you. Just in case PayPal randomly flags me I've transferred my balance to my bank account (I was supposed to do this anyways)

Pretty sure it's stuff like this that affects vendors as well, like Zeal, and I think it's just one of the reasons CTRL ALT didn't accept PayPal with the Cherokey GB

I got a feeling that paypal do this randomly to people who have funds in their account to steal their money..

And now they just reply my email with their "FAQ"..  :-\
whenever I called them, they just said they got my documents and my account will be fine..  sounds like bull**** to me

Dam I just sold a bunch of stuff on ebay and have about a Grand in Straya money waiting to clear in my paypal. But if your account is already verified with all that information then there is nothing they can really get you on is there? This is happening because these accounts didn't already have this information.

Everyone should go back to bank transfer, and avoid this kind of shenanigans.

i would say transfer all your money from pp to your bank asap.... just dont leave any money there.  My account is also verified, but you know, they can simply say you account is suspicious and lock it...which is what happen to me right now

How much money are we talking about before you get flagged? If my GB hits 100 sets, plus extras, I'll probably be handling about $8K in my account. I've had my PayPal account since like 2000 or so but I've never done any kind of volume before. Does anyone have a clue whether I should be worried?

I would say that if you have never violated the TOS/conditions you will be fine.

I'd suggest Zeal's had his account a while and does get quite a lot of volume yet he still triggered something with his very popular Zealio GB (I guess) so I would be worried as yours is definitely "unusual activity."

The only time I fell foul of paypal (I used a VPN so appeared to teleport from UK to US) it was solved immediately with a note scribbled on the pic of my credit card statement so maybe linking them to your GB thread would be explanation enough?

I actually called and talked to customer service to make sure that once I collected the funds for my gb (about $3300) that there would be no issues or holds so that I could pay the invoice to sp right away.  Thay way I only had a small amount that was for shipping sitting in my account.

To eliminate any confusion, my PP account had been verified for quite some time.  Prior to the GB issue, I never had any issues with PP and have had the same account since 2003.

I'm not sure if this is the result of a new policy or what, but it seems to be happening more an more lately.

I would be worried. The issue seems to still occur with older, verified accounts that get new volume/activity and subsequently get locked, like ghost/zeal.

If you're running a large scale group buy, I'd suggest you keep a floating balance of ~$500-1,000 within PayPal's wallet (to issue refunds for cancellations, etc). Withdraw every time you hit 2k or so (or as you see fit).

I was planning on charging the whole order to SP on my points card, but I can't afford to float that much for 2 months, and if I end up with interest charges that defeats the purpose of earning points.

There's also another issue with adding money to your CC so that you have "credit" on your credit card. What happens then if PP decides to limit your account on the last day, and requests for delivery confirmation (29 day deadline)? Say the order was about to be paid for, but you can't provide delivery confirmation within 29 days. You'll have to issue refunds out of your linked bank account.

Only reason I've got Zealios under control is because the whole order was paid for 2 weeks before I was limited, and the product is ready to be shipped out this week to meet PayPal's deadline requests.

I have the money in my personal savings to cover the order, I just don't want it to come to that.

Do you think I can call PayPal and ask them if I have a limit? Or is that something scammers would do to find out how much they can run off with?

Doubtful they'll tell you your limit. They probably have a pseudo credit score rating going on, and you can either slowly increase it or "ask for a higher limit" (running a GB) which requires doing a "credit check" (providing documents).

I should call PayPal this week and ask if there's anything I can do to preempt issues. If not just for my sake, for everyone else as well.

I think there would be no difference if you call paypal or not.  What they do and what they tell you in the phone is completely different.
