Title: Are these blue alps?!
Post by: KaminKevCrew on Sun, 04 October 2015, 20:43:43
Hi there, I was searching around ebay, looking to get my first vintage keyboard, and I was wondering if these were indeed blue alps. (I'm not terribly worried about getting this board, I'm just curious about the switches, since I'm not familiar with ALPS switches at all.)
Thanks!

I'm going to say no, but that's only because you gave no indication what "these" are.

Looks like KPT clones (http://deskthority.net/wiki/KPT_switch), not Blue Alps.

I agree with Nubbinator.

Yeah, I thought the plunger looked a little weird. Again, I'm not familiar with alps, so I thought I would ask.

"KPT switches are Alps mount, but the leg arrangement prevents them from being used in Alps keyboards."

lame!

"Alps mount" refers to the key caps.

SMK "Monterey" switches are like that also. Blue Monterey are very nice, has anybody used this type?

I've tried them. They're actually not bad. https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=41117.0#post_Other

Could be KPTs or blue TECs, or maybe even something else. Both KPT and TEC should be written on the top of the shell though.
