Title: Designing a custom Topre board
Post by: attheicearcade on Tue, 06 October 2015, 15:11:23
I wanted to share some work I have been doing here:

http://deskthority.net/workshop-f7/designing-a-custom-topre-board-t11734.html

I will keep updating the deskthority thread (don't want to over complicate things) but will be reading this thread to answer any questions if there is any interest.

Such an ambitious and passionate project. This would be sick to see, and I'm not even that much of rubber cup head. :)

Fascinating. I LOVE the ability to adjust all the columns on the fly to dial in the perfect setup. I know squat **** about the engineering part, but if you make this work, you are a hero.

I suddenly have the urge to donate money to a kickstarter.

Actually, sell your idea to PFU, take a percentage of the profits from their newest model, the Split HHKB, and let them do the rest.

This sounds like a firmware issue, should be easy enough to solve but that would be much later on.

For now, I posted a new update: http://deskthority.net/workshop-f7/designing-a-custom-topre-board-t11734.html#p272441

Dumb question, but would this be something you'd want to distribute Ergodox-style (w/ open source everything) or would this be a totally one-off deal like kurplop's customs?

It is highly unlikely that I assemble any boards for others: I just don't have the time. I wish to open source this when it becomes mature enough.

I think if you open source it, someone will come along and be willing to produce parts for it. This is a pretty radical leap forward.

After taking an extended break I am back working on the board, keypress detection is going well:

Just today I have managed to reduce the noise shown there significantly. The firmware I started is coming along, complete with analog mouse keys which are really cool.

I have been working more in the last couple of days on the metal parts, I want to get a full keyboard produced soon. PCBs are still going through revisions. Here is a render:

Thanks, should be sorting it all soon.

Some more renders with slightly refined design, still need to put some thought into the base and feet (tenting)
