Does BunnyLake get some of the profits from the sales of the Tai-Hao version, and is he ok with the design?
-
-
That's two questions :p
I doubt anyone except Tai Hao would get any profit shares.
There have been several Miami sets made, from PMK (or were they still SP back then) and Tai Hao. Probably a matter of time until a GMK set is made, and maybe a JTK set too. All of these are based on Miami Vice - perhaps the questions would be better directed at them?

You'll notice my noob status to the keyboard hacking world pretty easily :P. Thanks.

Yeah was it Ivan that ran the original GB that was trying to get payments when the r00tworm attach happened? I can't remember now...
-
I remember Ivan mentioned it himself somewhere that he doesn't really care.
So I guess it's free for all. :P

Miami needs to be done with JTK, that would be amazing.

Whew, good! Because I'm sure Tai Hao was losing sleep over it.

Most likely not. Not sure if he has a say on that or not.
-

Pretty sure you can't copyright a color scheme.

I'm under that impression as well. You might pull it off with sufficient quantity of color, etc. but a 2-color item doesn't seem to be liked by the US copyright office. Hell, they even have an example of it and why it will be rejected...
Gloria Grimwald paints a picture with a purple background and
evenly spaced white circles:
The registration specialist will refuse to register this claim because
simple geometric symbols are not eligible for copyright protection,
and the combination of the purple rectangle and the standard
symmetrical arrangement of the white circles does not contain a
sufficient amount of creative expression to warrant registration.

Thanks for clarifying.

I've been looking into the copyright side of things a lot lately so some of this was fresh in my head. It's an interesting yet confusing topic at times.

Very educative information.
