Title: Why No love for model F Xt?
Post by: ManicMatt1125 on Tue, 13 October 2015, 19:04:56
So I'm a little confused. I've had my Ibm model f Xt for sale for about a month amd a half. It includes soarers converter so it is ready to use. The only issue with it is the "." Key is not working, I feel the spring needs to be reseated. I've only received one inquiry about it and am a little confused. Is it not liked because of the layout? Is my price of $75 shipped, including the $50 converter to much? (The keyboard is basically $25) Is it not being seen? What's the deal?

Is there more market for the parts? Key caps are pristine. I know they are sought after. I'm racking my brain trying to analyze why it's not selling

For me, its layout is a problem. Especially, I won't be going well with its small enter.

The layout is horrendous but the feel is great. Personally, an XT is a parts donor to me, but some people like them.

Definitely sell the converter separately, or better yet, keep it. It will fit and work with any XT or AT plug (assuming that it is Orihalcon's, a Hagstrom might be proprietary to the XT).

I have found that if any part of a keyboard is broken, the whole thing is broken. Fix the spring, hundreds of people have used the "Chopstick of Death" technique with great success.

Last, forget selling it here or on DT. Forums contain the tightest of cheapskates. Put it on ebay for $40 + shipping and it will sell, after you have fixed it.

I'm guessing fohat means $40 + shipping without the converter, because I think you can get that easy one you fix the key.

It's the layout. The AT and the F122 can be converted to other layouts, most notably ANSI, which people somehow like :p . The XT is extremely uncustomisable.

What about that XtAnt project?  Did anyone ever build one?  I was curious about that more than anything.

Did anyone ever build one?

Several people have.

I have all the parts and I have been attempting to build up the momentum to dive in for the past month or so.
The only major chore at this point is wiring in the xwhatsit.
