So.... I just got fired today. It sucks. First time getting fired from a job. It was really weird and humiliating packing my stuff up in front of my coworker. My boss gave me a song and dance about us not clicking and what not. He said that communication was lacking (I agreed) It definitively sucks. It makes one feel as though one is not good enough and is a failure. Oh well, lesson learned, onto the next one. That will be my first and only "termination".
How was your day???

Sorry to hear. What line of work? How long have you been there?

That sucks, man. Hope things look up for you. But don't be too hard on yourself about it. It's just like any relationship, they don't always work out. It could be one person in a position of power that has an issue with you, or just a poor culture fit.
I would just try to think on any point that could have brought up this incident, and consider things you could change up in the future to avoid a similar incident. Good communication is key, I think, in any role.

Agreed. I am trying (in between beers) to look at the positives of it, such as it could have happened AFTER we signed our loan agreement for our house. It was definitely a lesson learned and will help me in my future endeavors. As I said to my boss and coworker when I walked out of the door for the last time "**** happens"

I did IT support for a nonprofit healthcare company. I was there for 3 months, not terribly long, but long enough for it to sting.

:(
Sorry to hear it man. This is one of my biggest fears. The others who have posted already gave some good advice/words, so I'll just leave my condolences and wishes of best luck moving forward with the next endeavor. :)

That sucks dude. It sounds like your ex-boss is a short Richard.
Sometimes people get fired for what is more about the boss's insecurity for personal relations than about your work performance or work behaviour. Then he has to justify that decision somehow ... and starts grasping at straws...
Something similar happened to me once. Right out of the blue, I got fired because the boss had found someone else to take my job - someone he clicked better with. How can you not take that personally? I was in a dark mood for weeks after that. My coworkers were just as surprised as I was; it was not as if I had been bad at my job - then it would have been easier to comprehend.

Thanks,
It was a lesson well learned, and one which will serve me well on future job interviews. Not every job is a right fit. Just because you excel at something does not mean you and your potential employer will "click" as was NOT the case in my situation,

To be honest, he was a cool dude, we just had different opinions and ideologies. I have no hate towards the man, sometimes things just don't work out, and I think my closing statement as I left sums it up best "**** happens"

What like Topre vs. mechanical or something?

This is an intangible that is hard to quantify.
I have (almost) always worked for small companies where I was under the same roof, and talked with the boss/president/owner every day.
I was "let go" from a job about 10 years ago where I was an excellent "fit" and had been there (just 1 week short of) 6 months (when various benefits and vesting would have begun). I fit in wonderfully with "the team" both personally and professionally, and had made several good friends. I would have been near the top of the food chain, but everybody who would have been under me liked and respected me.
The only person in the entire company who I did not have an excellent relationship with was the boss/president/owner. To drastically (over)simplify, I was too much of an artist and he was too much of an accountant.
Fortunately, shortly afterwards, my previous employer called and begged me to come back, and I did.

Sorry...That was inflammatory wording on my part. I didn't mean it like that. Just going for a catch-all term for discrete mechanical switches like MX and Alps.

Sorry to hear it, but the IT field is full of a bunch of people with all sorts of issues that can lead to something like this.
Just remember this much--only what was in your control was in your control, and if you could have done something different or 'better', then that's your takeaway.
Other than that, I look at it this way--everything happens for the greater good in your life, no matter how terrible in the moment. I've lived through several terrible moments only to understand years (sometimes decades) later why that was for the greater good.
Closing thought. I once asked a friend if he could change a single event in his life, which would it be. His response was, well I'm happy with who I am right now, and without all the challenges, successes, and failures that I've been through thus far, I wouldn't be who I am right now. So I'd change nothing.

Yea, definitely true. Half of jobs is knowing how to do the job, the other half is getting along with people. I actually think that getting along with people might be more important and compensates for actually knowing how to do the job.
