Title: Here's my start..
Post by: DrCr4nK on Mon, 26 October 2015, 18:43:33
Ever since I saw a Bro through Reddit, I've been hooked.  I lurked here a little while, and finally made an account.  Here's the next step.  Let me know what you think!  I'm still learning so be gentle... Also, my camera sucks...  :D[attach=1][attach=2][attach=3]

Well there's no question what it is even with the glary pictures - that's a great start!  I do have a couple of things you might like to consider:

Can you press this cap on a board with a key in front of it or does it touch it?

You have done a great job of keeping it narrow enough to not touch the caps next to it, but as a sacrifice the nose looks quite narrow rather than having a flat top.  This combined with the front being much higher than the back might not make it the easiest/most comfortable cap to use (hard to be sure without having one here to poke...)

Overall it's a very promising first sculpt, I'm looking forward to watching your progress :)

Yeah, it's a little low.  As a result, I'll have to mount it on a taller profile key, or just change the sculpt height.  This was a trial run, and I'm going to use it to see how creating a cast works.  Just tryin to learn sumptin..   I want to be able to doubleshot the apple red.  I'll update this thread on the progress.  Thanks for your input!  :D

Love the look of it and it being a pig leaves alot of room for variation.

So this is just the sculpt, right? It looks really good! What material did you use? (if I am allowed to ask)

Wow!  Looks good.  I'm a "Boar/Pig" in terms of the Chinese Zodiac Calendar!  MUST HAVE!

Some stuff called Fimo I think?  Just a polymer clay that I can bake in the oven.  Thanks for the kind words!  :D

In my initial sketches I turned out a Boar first.  :D  I'm hoping I can get a doubleshot out of it so I can color the apple in different ways.  Still some work to do to him, but I really appreciate the kind words!  Thanks!

So, I worked on a newer sculpt today utilizing a few suggestions.. :D  [attach=1]
Also tried capturing a stem in my material.  That didn't work out so well.  [attach=2]
And I slowly shuffle on..   :D

Decided to not sculpt another pig today.  Don't know that I'm satisfied with the latest pig, but we'll see how it looks after it's cleaned and cast in resin.  Anyway.  I sculpted a new cap today.
Without further ado, The Frenchman!  [attach=1]

Thanks, man!  I'm gonna have to find a different polymer clay to use.  When I bake this it loses some of the fine detail... Sucks.

Have you made a mold yet? I've been having issues getting the stems in my mold to come out  :(

Not yet.  I tried with the clay I'm using just as an experiment.  I'm not very hopeful for that stage.  I'll really be able to test all of that when I can afford the material.  I had never sculpted before, and I wanted to see where that took me.

I'm really happy to see you documenting your progress (successes and failures). It takes a lot of courage to show your mishaps so good on ya. Keep it up. I have had limited success with casting so feel free to ask me any questions!

Thanks, man!  I'll be trying my first cast this next week.  Assuming I get my materials.  Long weekend will be great for it.  Probably will have many questions needing answering..  :D
