Title: [IC] Keyboard storage pouch/box
Post by: yuktsi on Tue, 27 October 2015, 11:32:48
My greatest challenge has been to properly organize and store all my keyboards. The situation is worse for custom keyboards, most of them are very heavy and didn't come with a proper box. The options available in the market are too expensive or simply just not suitable for bulk storage.

**this is how keyboards are stored in my wardrobe, terrible

To save space, boards should be stored vertically. IMHO, the cost of pouch/box should not cost more than $25, 5-10% value of a custom keyboard. Right now, I am looking this design

I am able to get it made in the dimension we want and also in geekhack colorway. But before I proceed with getting a quote from them, I will need to find out more from you people. Who knows maybe there's a better design  :blank:

Any comments are more than welcome. Hehe

can't see it from the picture, but is there a strap for you to hold it? I'd be interested in tkl sized ones :)

I like this idea! What's good about the box style case is that the board can almost be any size, it just gives the ability to stack them, store them etc. From what I understand these would be more for storage and less for carrying right?

I'm definitely interested, starting to get more and more boards. If the case is meant for storing then wouldn't it better to at least have harder material for the outer shell? I know it would be way more difficult but I feel like the keyboards would be more protected. I guess you could also just store all of the soft shell cases into a bigger, sturdier box. I like the design but I feel like we could make a few minor tweaks to improve it.

Interested if it's for storage and hard. Don't really care to carry my custom keyboards around, and I'd like to protect them as best as possible.

Oops.. scrolled past it.  :-[

Looking for something like this since that briefcase on massdrop. But couldn't justify the price.

I'd be interested in a soft case (like the black/red one shown as an example) in GH colours, especially at under $20.

I'd likely buy both TKL size and 60%/HHKB.

Oh ok that makes sense now, if yuktsi can get the price under $20 then it's a steal in my opinion. I wonder how thick the padding is on the outsides though, I'm not too concerned if they're just going to be stored away but it's better to be safe than sorry. They don't seem to be too bad of a carrying case if you toss it in your book bag as well, may be a little too thick.

Is it a hard case??

It's a soft case with foam cushioning on the inside, the intended use is for storing keyboards and not for travel(still could, nothings stopping you :p).

I would be interested. Just ordered a sleeve which I think will be great to transport in my bag, but I need something to protect my keyboards from dust at home (currently on a shelf covered with a scarf )  :))

Are these like the OTD Eva cases? They look like it.

I've heard that the hard cases intelli used to make were the best. You may be able to get in touch with him and see if he is still open to making them. I have never used them, but have an EVA case, and its okay but there is zero internal padding.

I guess what you referred is almost right. It's not a box, but close to a pouch that has a rigid shape.
That is, it is different from sleeve or something. However, I don't know how rigid it is exactly.

I also guess it is so similar to an Eva case.
Unfortunately I can't get a picture to show the inside part of it.
However, according to the product description, it is filled with high-density thick foams(aka sponges) play a role to protect shocks like cushions.
It is said that its thickness is 6 mm(about 0.23 in) or above.

FYI.
The price was about $33 on average. The lowest I saw was about $16.

Fingers crossed for under $20. Around $30 still isn't all that bad but I wouldn't be able to buy nearly as many. :p

It is true that Eva case is good enough to place a keyboard with even an aluminium case.
I also would like to arrange it or a similar one for my SQ.

However I think its price is still not an one we expect.
Let's find out better alternatives.

how much was the OTD one? I talking to the factory, asking if they can make a sample, in geekhack orange and dark grey.
The shipping can be quite tricky, wondering if anyone in US could help with the distribution.

I would be willing to help depending on the amount, I couldn't have boxes on boxes but if it was 100 or so I could most likely ship them out easily. I'll do anything to get my hand on a few of these storage pouches. :p

My post office back home is pretty consistent and fast with shipping stuff out. :thumb:

I would really like to see this come to fruition, though I think it's important that a variety of sizes are provided for various keyboard sizes -- at the very least, the most common ones. A case that loosely contains a fragile or precious object is nearly as useless as not having a protective case in the first place; a relatively tight fit is key.

I also feel that having a few colourways would be great.

Cheers.  :)

As long as that doesn't mean cutting on the quality, absolutely!
$5 USD more is only just over £3, so I wouldn't complain about paying that much more, if it meant that the quality wouldn't degrade [if it were to, being $5 cheaper].

Would love this, especially for my Kustoms. It seems all the sleeves and such are geared to the 60%-and-under market, but I have a Duck Blackbird, TX-CP, and 75% that could all use proper protection. Don't know what I'm gonna do with my LZ Ergo TKL though.... Odd shaped board needs an odd-shaped case.  :D
