Title: A New Layout
Post by: Vozella on Sat, 31 October 2015, 14:18:45
What do you think of this new layout? I tried to make a layout where it's a matrix design but I can still buy keycap sets. Is there any way I can improve it?

Edit: Took some advice from suicidal_orange.

What benefits the layout is suppose to have?

I wanted to keep the keys in a straight line, or a matrix design while still being able to fully use keycap sets.

Probably comes down to personal preference but I can touch type "-" so putting backspace in it's place would be very annoying.  I would also be tempted to shift the bottom row left 0.25 but the arrows only 0.125 making a little gap around them so they're easier to find.

Other than that it looks good and achieves what you set out to do :)

I can touch type too. The reason I put it closer to the hands is because it gets farther away when I align the keys and it gets too far away for my prefrence.

Not quite, "=" is not really useful while typing so I was thinking of the other option as in the raw data below (can't work out how to get a friendly link )  I also tweaked the arrows to what I was thinking.

Code: [Select]
{a:7},"",{x:0.25},"Esc","F1","F2","F3","F4","F5","F6","F7","F8","F9","F10","F11","F12","Delete","Win","PrtSc"],
["",{x:0.25,a:5},"~\n`","!\n1","@\n2","#\n3","$\n4","%\n5","^\n6","&\n7","*\n8","(\n9",")\n0","_\n-",{a:7,w:2},"Backspace",{a:5},"+\n\n\n\n\n\n=",{a:7},"Home"],
[{x:0.75,w:1.5},"Tab","Q","W","E","R","T","Y","U\n\n\n\n7","I\n\n\n\n8","O\n\n\n\n9","P",{a:5},"{\n[","}\n]",{w:1.5},"|\n\\",{x:0.5,a:7},"PgUp"],
[{x:0.5,w:1.75},"Caps Lock","A","S","D","F","G","H","J\n\n\n\n4","K\n\n\n\n5","L\n\n\n\n6",{a:5},":\n;","\"\n'",{a:7,w:2.25},"Enter",{x:0.75},"PgDn"],
[{w:2.25},"Shift","Z\n\n\n\nMenu","X\n\n\n\nInsert","C\n\n\n\nScrl Lk","V\n\n\n\nPs/Brk","B","N","M\n\n\n\n1",{a:5},"<\n,\n\n\n2",">\n.\n\n\n3","?\n/",{a:7,w:2.75},"Shift",{x:0.125},"↑",{x:0.125},"End"],
[{x:0.25,w:1.25},"Ctrl",{w:1.25},"Fn",{w:1.25},"Alt",{w:6.25},"\n\n\n\n0",{w:1.25},"Alt",{w:1.25},"Fn",{w:1.25},"Ctrl",{x:0.125},"←","↓","→"]

Oh. I see. That's a good idea.

1.75 Shift keys aren't that unusual. You could have that align with the Caps Lock.
