Title: Blank keycaps for LED keyboards
Post by: grayilya on Mon, 02 November 2015, 15:43:39
Hi GH, Im looking for keycaps to use with the ducky zero shine and maybe reuse it when i buy a ducky shine 5.I was planning on the WASD    keycaps but it looks like the LEDs shine through them instead of having a glow underneath.Any recommendations on what type/where to buy?

Find blank doubleshot pbt keycaps. Light don't shine through those in my experience. Look on amazon, or ebay.

Edit: Actually I don't think I had doubleshot I had just blank black PBT keycaps..

Any thick blanks will do. The darker colours tend to have less bleed-through, but lighter colours will reflect more light so you have more underglow.

All SA profile sets that I've tried block LED light completely, but they're mostly doubleshots, not blank. Some of the BSP, Gateron, Leopold and GMK sets (all thick Cherry profile) block the light well, too.

Signature Plastics DCS and DSA profiles let light through, as do the WASD caps.

yeah, you should be good with doubleshot. They also have transparent keys too. I think I saw them not too long ago in blue and black.

I have some blanks from geekkeys passed on to me from a redditor that I had bought a board from and they work really well. No light leak through the caps. I looked at the price of the set and it was pretty reasonable but then again I am pretty new to the scene.

I have a set of these, and am pretty satisfied. Price is right, so to speak.

Though the font is a bit weird.

I'm with you on that font thing. I thought about getting a set of the white with green legends but I can't get over the font.

Yeah. I think I can deal with it (it's less weird than the Royal Kludge caps they put on their own boards), but it's definetely... noticeable. The subtle underglow is really cool though.
