Title: Twin Peaks
Post by: baldgye on Thu, 05 November 2015, 16:14:56
Anyone else seen this show? I realise it's pretty famous but it's also fairly old.

I was too young to watch it when it was on TV (assuming it was even shown in the uk) and me and my gf sat down and watched it all the way through with the Log Lady intro's and were both a bit disappointed. Though that's usually how these things work out.

Started watching the movie made after the second series and it's pretty bad IMO, why the **** is David Bowie in it? Lmao

Anyone else here a fan of a series of watch it? Kinda curious what people think of it.

The show kind of turned to crap due to studio interference. ALSO David Bowie is so hot in a disgusting kind of way

I loved it - especially the first season.

You need to get in a certain frame of mind to watch it, but that is helped a great deal with the soothing intro music.
But first brew a pot of damn good coffee, grab a piece of cherry pie, relax and open your mind. Then you will enjoy it.

Some people and phenomena may seem mental at first glance, but you will realize more and more as the series progress that the longer story is about (spoiler!) magic, and that magic just happens to be inherently weird in this universe.
Then there are some strong personalities (and clashes between some of them) and the usual David Lynch's nostalgia for 1950's kitch.

The "diary" and the "movie" are crap, though.

I keep wanting to watch it. I get a few episodes in, quit, forget the plot, and restart. Think I've seen the first 3 episodes 5 times by now.

I should start watching it again.

Yeah the first season is brilliant, second season seems to get a bit carried away with itself and a bit lost. But the characters are brilliant, we can't decide who we like more; Ed, Hawk, Cooper, Leland etc every character has a propose and a strong personality.

The music is also brilliant and it's a shame that season 2 drew away from it compared to season one, but the intro music is perfect.

I also have to say that it's really well shot too, watching it now if you didn't recognise the actors and actresses you'd struggle to know if it was an actual late 80's TV show or a modern TV show made to look old.

The show was only good (imo) up until they solved the murder. Once that plot point was gone I stopped caring about the characters motivations. Everything up to the 2nd half of season 2. But yeah, season 1 is fantastic.

The movie was OK.

has anyone heard of the news that they are making a third season at the moment or are in the planning stages? MY gf follows the actor that plays Cooper and apparently he's been posting about it on facebook

It had such potential and very interesting characters and then... the murder was solved, and it just faded to a completely unsatisfying ending... it was rushed and poor. Big disappointment. I still like the show, though, for the atmosphere and well developed characters.

The biggest issue I have with it is that the series didn't actually have any kind of resolution when they started filming. Lynch just kind of made stuff up as he went. It creates this horribly unfulfilling tension that has no resolution. Kind of off-pissing, TBH. It's mysterious and interesting and you're waiting for some kind of explanation that makes it all make sense and... nothing. A bit like LOST.

I have since realised that I should simply stay away from anything done by Lynch. "Pointless, meaningless, mystical crap" is probably the most polite way to describe how I feel about most of his work.

Yup, they're making the next season which is supposed to be released in 2017.

Season 1 was amazing.  It also set a new, high bar for camera work and quality production in television. A show that was not a sitcom, nor a soap rated very well, attracted media attention and showed there was a market for ongoing quality drama that was not neatly wrapped up in 42 minutes.  Without Twin Peaks it's very doubtful fox would have picked up the x-files either.

I think the quality of crime-solving would be improved if more detectives would go out into the woods and throw stones at bottles.

I watched the first season and really enjoyed it. A video game podcast I really enjoy (Idle Thumbs) did a weekly podcast as they watched every episode, once per week. Thought it was a great accompanyment to the show if you're thinking of checking it out

I watched Twin Peaks after stumbling on Mulholland Drive. I was looking for something with the same weird ambient feel. Loved the first season, like most people here.

Diane is best character  :))
