Who made the first Artisan cap? Was it Clack? If so, who was second?
The earliest artisan I know of is Clack's caps from 2012...
I know there was a thread asking this question but I can't find it now and it died quickly anyway.

Would you include novelty caps? Or purely caps made by artisans. Although I don't know the exact dates, I would assume it started with novelty caps being made, then someone custom making novelty caps, then custom sculpted caps (artisans).

gay thread
dank novelty account.

From what I remember back in my lurking days there weren't anywhere near the same volume of custom caps, or sets. There were a number threads about DIY dyeing which in a landscape of generic keycaps were a novelty to see. iMav's rit dyeing thread was one of the earliest threads to spark my interest in GH. Would be curious about the history of artisan caps, too.

Thank you for your input

I made some wooden key caps for my model M back in 1997/1998, when I was in high school.
they only lasted about a year. but that was before I even knew about this place.
not to mention GH may not have even existed back then.
perhaps you need to be more specific in your question.

AFAIK, it was Clack, Bro started working on it, Boost did some caps, there were a couple of DIY threads, I made a few threads about my start, Binge started, Jiggity Jane and one or two others started then disappeared, Hipster started, then the deluge came.

First I remember was CC. There were novelty keys back then, mainly through SP. But I'm pretty sure the first time something was carved into/molded out of the cap was the original red Click Clack Skull. Then the black, then Tri. They were $16 and $25 I think through EK. Not many bought them for a while, seemed crazy at the time to spend that much on a single key cap lol.

Forgot I was being nice now

Clacks were 1st....mostly imitated, eventually duplicated.

I remember when they were this cheap. I didn't get the appeal then, and I don't get it now.
