Title: HHKB intel edison
Post by: whodevil on Sat, 07 November 2015, 23:20:27
So I came across the intel edison recently. It's a pretty powerful SOC, it is about the size of the teensy. It has onboard wifi and bluetooth, and there are a few prototyping boards with plenty of gpio. I was wondering if anyone has thought about putting one of these inside the HHKB? Embedded linux could potentially crack the door wide open for keyboard hacks. One idea I had was make the keyboard reconfigure itself based on which computer it is communicating with. (I work on a linux machine at work, and windows or mac at home). Hell maybe this would make it so I could sync easily with an ipad.

Thoughts?

An interesting project, you had me at HHKB in the title of your thread. Do you think it would be possible to use it as a simple computer for say watching movies or body boarding the web? I just think it would be cool to have a portable keyboard-computer. I get your standard phone would probably be more powerful, but KEYBOARD FORUM.

oh interesting, I bet you could hook a little display up to it. I saw this the other day

I think it is small enough to wedge into the bottom left corner of the HHKB where there are no keys. Could make the display show battery life, and which computer it is paired with, maybe something else about which mode it is in.

That would be a cool feature.

Blasphemy!

Lots of space for extra electronics inside!

At the cost of case perfection.

Whoa that is an interesting idea -  reconfiguring the layout based on the host computer. Do It.
