I thought this was a thread asking if we ever managed to quit keyboards.
Then I realized it was a tp4 thread.
I guess it wouldn't make much sense to ask if we quit keyboards. Clearly if we're reading stuff here we wouldn't have.

I wish I could quit all kinds of things. Mostly bad-for-me-food, and maybe coffee. I so weak though...
I need to quit eating so much and being stressed and worrying.
This is completely not my reality. I can tell you with absolute certainty that I have no desire to "vastly procreate". The kids I already have kick my ass. Marriage is not stressful because people want to "procreate" more. It is stressful when people lose the ability to effectively communicate.I need to quit eating so much and being stressed and worrying.
If you think about it...
Married life, is HIGHLY stressful, because it's in direct opposition of your natural tendency to vastly procreate..
So, the modern "sense" of well-being, even if correct for our "race" in the long run, is a complete 180 on what we FEEL we ought to be doing.
I wish I could quit all kinds of things. Mostly bad-for-me-food, and maybe coffee. I so weak though...
Why quit coffee
I lower my coffee take to once every two days since I know the long term effect of having too much
Used to take two to three cups of double espresso a day
Have it damage your life bad and you'll realise it has to stop.
I quit smoking cold turkey in January. There wasn't any build up or anything, I just wasn't enjoying it any more and was becoming increasingly conscious of how it was affecting those around me. One day I just didn't buy a pack at the convenience store and I haven't since.
Have it damage your life bad and you'll realise it has to stop.
This is the most effective quitting method...I've had several things almost destroy my life/marriage/finances ovethe years. For me, it took coming close and looking over the edge to realize that a behavior has to stop. IMHO if you tend toward arrogance like I do, nothing anyone says will change your mind or convince you. Only if you look in the chasm yourself.

I drink too much, and I know I'm dependent on it. That's not really good. I would like to be able to go a full day without getting a caffeine headache. Actually, I guess it isn't coffee that I would like to quit, but probably more like caffeine. I'd be fine with some decaf, but it makes my brain hurt.

[snip]
I started drinking and smoking at around 15. In my early twenties I drank a lot, drove drunk, smoked weed and did a lot of speed (some cocaine, but mostly prescription stuff like Aderrall). Then there were the party drugs, whatever someone was selling. I never messed with crack, meth or needle drugs, that just seemed too hardcore even for me. But basically anything else was fair game.
I had a friend, Dan, who loved to drink wine. He would buy it in actual jugs. I'm not even sure where he would get it in jugs. Every night there would be a party at the house he lived in, and Dan had his turntables set up, spinning all kinds of electronic music and drinking out of his jug while we played Tony Hawk or whatever game was on, then we'd all pass out until morning. One morning we all woke up to the sound of Dan's girlfriend screaming at the top of her lungs. Someone ran upstairs to see what was going on. Turns out that Dan had snorted an 80mg oxycontin the night before in addition to his jug of wine. He overdosed and his girlfriend woke up to find him lying dead next to her. As soon as I heard someone upstairs say, "he's dead," I got up and left right away, figuring cops would be coming there soon and not wanting to be around for that. It was a super selfish decision on my part, but one that characterized the kind of person I was back then. I never showed my face at that house again.
That night pretty much ended my run with hard drugs, but I continued on drinking occasionally, just trying to keep it in moderation. I started directing my energies towards more respectable activities, started a small business (auto detailing), and then I met a girl with whom things got serious pretty quickly. But even as I was trying to clean up my act, this girl was heading in the opposite direction, and I knew it was a self-destructive path so I broke up with her, which was about the hardest thing I ever made myself do. The next day I went to work at my part-time night job and it was a really slow night. Basically I had 8 hours to sit there and second-guess my decision to break up with her. By the time my shift ended I was ready to turn off my brain. So I called up my old party buddies and met up with them. As soon as I walked in the door of my buddy's apartment I downed a half a bottle of JD like an athlete downs a gatorade. The night got crazier from there and I ended up blacking out, falling off a rooftop (don't ask), and waking up all scratched up from the fall, at someone else's house with no memory of how I got there, other than the fact that my car was there so apparently I drove myself. I checked my cell phone call log, and sure enough I had drunk-dialed that girl about 5 times the night before. I was mortified. I had been doing so well, and in one night I felt like I had ruined it all.
Not long after that night I gave up drinking altogether. I haven't touched a drink since then (some time in 2003). Some people seem to be able to handle it in moderation, I'm just not one of them. I quit smoking about a year later.
So anyway, yeah it's possible, but for me I just had to learn the hard way.

masturbating keeps me going. I'm in too far to quit...
Ejaculation is healthy for men. Getting it regularly keeps the prostate going and that prevents getting prostate cancer later in life. Sex with someone or jacking off does not matter .

I heard somewhere sometime that it releases necessary protein in the body. I could be totally wrong and am too lazy to Google it.
I managed to quit World of warcraft after a few years. Was addicted for a few years but I was a kid and had no responsibilities, so no real harm done. Got dumped because of it, but that wasnt so bad since she was crazy anyways.
Drinking, certain foods, upgrading my PC yearly, preordering games, buying anything from or produced in partnership with EA games, watching orange is the new black, watching it's always sunny in Philadelphia, playing guitar due to issues with hands/wrist, and having Birthday parties.Never quit birthday parties!

I used to drink a ton of coffee every day, now I just drink coffee on occasion. I was at the point where I'd get caffeine headaches any day I didn't have coffee.
My only other bad habit is smoking bud which I've cut back on but have no plans to quit.

Blizzard sent me a free week of WoW recently so I re-installed and logged in. Its like a whole new game I had no idea what the hell was going on, was kinda fun to just see what had happened since i had left. Well the guild I was in is now #1 on the server literally 10 seconds after I logged in I got a guild invite and the next 20 min was people freaking out over me playing again, i was like "haha sorry guys its just a free week of gametime" apparently I was one of the best healers they ever had and the guild leader offered to buy a years subscription for me to come back and heal, I graciously declined though.... cant be getting back into WoW again! I like my GF!!
Video games are not unhealthy, your lack of moderation is. You are a fool if you believe otherwise, and that goes for things like drinking as well(except smoking ciggs, they are just flat out bad for you.)Haven't read any posts above. People think games are bad? I love vidya. Don't have much time to play anymore, but after the kid goes to bed and the wife is feeling exceptionally tired one evening, I like to turn on my system and go numb.
You are making it a problem by not being able to control yourself like an adult.

My new years resolution is to quit procrastinating and actually do something with my life rather than waste away and sit around and just wallow in my depression. Wish me luck..
I don't want to end up just ****ing up my life and staying somewhere that I don't want to be.
Hopefully I can muster up some kind of drive and get my self out of this ever growing pit...

I quit the marijuanas about 14 years ago. In college I was taking part in smoking at least an ounce a day; dangerous when your dorm hall has 39/40 potheads. Once I left school, I just felt ill every time I smoked.Pot makes my friend hella paranoid so he doesn't really like it. Me and him are real tight :thumb:
Wyfe will have quit smoking cigs 10 years as of November 24th. We gonna party. More important than a birthday, imo.
I was borderline alcoholic. Some of that could be blamed on the military lifestyle.
When I lived in the dorms on base I would be drunk for 3 straight days. Get off work Friday and immediately start drinking until Sunday. Would wake up and take shots of tequila to get rid of my hang over then continue partying.
After I got my own place and I found my self drinking by my self on the weekends. (and this wasn't just a beer or two) I realized I had a problem. I quit cold turkey for a year.
Now I enjoy drinking craft beers on the weekends with friends. I tour breweries, beer tastings and may buy a 6 pack with different craft beers. But I will never drink with the only purpose of getting drunk again.

Would you say you were actually addicted to it?

I've been smoking too much, decided to save some money and got 1.25 lbs last week. I wouldn't say I'm mentally addicted but my body is dependant of it. I don't have an appetite at all unless I smoke. I'm not planning on this forever. Once I get out of college I'll definitely stop to get a job.

+1 for no appetite without smoking but I can barely taste anything so eating is usually a chore. I'm hoping that by the time I graduate it'll be legal so I won't have to stop to get a job. :))

Same, I've been waiting for PA to legalize it and if that's the case then I would continue. I have found a good medium of smoking and school so I can still maintain decent grades and pass all my classes. I make sure to get my core engineering classes work done first before I hit the bong, any other class isn't too bad.

:)) dude, we think the same
The only work I can't do high is Calc, anything else and I'm fine. My GPA is still above 3.0 so I wouldn't say it's negatively impacting school. It helps my head so you may actually be able to say it's good for my school work.

Great minds think alike ;)
It definitely is very beneficial for me to just relax the mind after a long day of exams or studying. I'm currently sitting around a 2.8-3.0 freshman year first semester but I took a lot heavier load this semester than I should have. Come next semester it will be much easier and I can working on bringing my GPA back up, hoping to average higher than 3.5 after that. So many kids have been failing out of my major that they lowered the minimum GPA to a 2.6 but I need to have at least a 3.0 for a few intern offers I've had.

What major? I'm an ME but I only need a 2.5 for my scholarships (currently @ 3.4). Heavy class loads are manageable if you prepare for it, 18 credits this semester has been hard but I've survived it so far.
Once I get into my major related classes it will be much easier for me.

Go ahead, make your smug little comments. The fact is, it's a big subject, bigger than you'd ever imagine—otherwise I don't think you could possibly be so cavalier about it.

It's Other that's the killer. For example, in many parts of the U.S., all soft drinks are referred to as "Coke", or even "Pepsi". (You ask for a "Coke" [or "Pepsi"] and the server says, "What kind?" Then you say "Dr. Pepper" or "Mountain Dew" or whatever. To order your drink by name, right away, would seem odd or pushy. I've actually been through these places and heard such exchanges.)
And that's just the U.S. If you think you have the courage, take a look at this list of soft-drink names by country (http://everything.explained.today/Names_for_soft_drinks/). As you'll see, deciding what to call this stuff is a worldwide paradox.
I'm glad I had a chance to raise your consciousness a bit on this complex, globe-spanning topic. I trust your lives will never be the same, drink-name-wise. Mine won't.

Mine won't.
That's really interesting... It took me some time to get used everyone here calling all soft drinks "limonadi" since it's derived from the English "lemonade", but Coke is.... well, it's Coca-Cola.
Maybe we should all just call them soft drinks?
To clarify my earlier post, I really meant I quit the soft drink by the name of Coca-Cola. What made it easier was also that it doesn't taste as good here as it did in South Africa, which was discussed previously in another thread.
All carbonated beverages are cokes here. You have to specify which type of coke you would like.

This is how it should be. Soda is an ingredient. Pop is what you do when you drink too many. Coke is the drink, and there are many kinds. Hoff needs to visit the south.

Coke is the brand. Cola is the generic term. Although nobody calls it cola.Let me hand you a kleenex, after I go xerox these documents.
We just say fizzy drinks...
I quit smoking last year, feels alright I guess, but I do occasionally think about going back. Then I think about the money and change my mind.

Then one day years from now you'll find yourself in a gas station line, watching the person in front of you spend a small fortune on a carton, and think to yourself, "what would ever possess someone to--oh wait, I used to do that."

The first time I heard the word Xerox, was in the film Matilda. I've never heard it used in a sentence again until now.
