Hi,
I've finally decided to try ErgoDox EZ. However I'm still tore between blank caps and labelled one. I'd like to experiment with alternative layouts and I'm unfamiliar with ErgoDox for which labelled would be nice. OTOH the unlabelled seems more ergonomic.
Is there an easy way to label keys in temporary way if I would go with unlabelled?

Relegendables. Alternatively you can do front print stickers.

Print a a blueprint with the legends so you can refers to them when needed ;)

Dan's idea seems to be good for me. Especially that it allows me not to look down (too much).

Or just go with DSA keycaps, which are uniform profile and many sets include Ergo Dox-like compatibility.
When you have a layout you like, simply swap them for blank DSA keycaps.

Graphite pencil. Write the legends in front of the caps, wipe them off with a moist rag (or your finger) when you don't need them anymore. Kinda ghetto but it works.
Also the blueprint idea is great.

If you are crafty, you can create a storage box out of a stencil knife and a few pieces of cardboard.
Glue the outside border of 2 cardboard pieces together. Print out a blueprint and trace over it and then cut out the holes with stencils!

I find the US International keyboard layout to be useful to me.
On a Dolch keyset, I put Scotch tape on the front of the keycaps and mark the legends with a white gel pen used with dark paper, specifically Gelly Roll 08 from Sakura. The "ink" dries like a kind of paint. These seem to hold up pretty well as the front of cap doesn't get a lot of wear. However note, gel pens in other colors don't mark the tape anywhere near as well.
On a Biege keyset, I do same and mark the tape with a 2B pencil, then place a second piece of tape over the pencil to protect it.
