I love this.

That Unicomp listing looks like a piss-poor PS job. I don't know what they were trying to acheive with those pics.

Yep, good 'ol Brian is out to screw you over big time with his M13s!

yeah, is it supposed to be a joke?
-
Mhmm, I was thinking the same thing - if anyone is interested, they really should ask for a picture first.
-
The Unicomp wasn't from Brian O Neill...
-
M13 went. Was it anyone from here?
-
wait, you have a model f, but bought an M13?
i was really thinking about buying it, but saw wellington's deal pop up
-
Yeah, I want a Model M for modding purposes, and to replace my old Endurapro. The keyswitches may not be as good, but I'd like a good quality Trackpoint keyboard.
-
good to know advantages exist, woke up today with a bit of the buyer's remorse, thinking, "i was supposed to be saving up for a model f!"
-
Also, over the past few weeks I cleaned up an old Model M I found lying around in college, and pressed it back into use with one the computers that one of the college societies I'm a member of has. There was something rather satisfying about it that distinguised it from the Model F so I decided to get one. It was either a Black M13 or an Industrial, and I felt the M13 was better value for money because of it's Trackpoint.
-
How do they put the letters on those keycaps on the black M13's?
-
what about me?
-
i just got it like an hour ago, its really awesome, but i do see what you are talking about... i thought all model Ms were dye sub? whats all this talk of legendary quality? so far, my RUBBER DOME HHKB is the only one with what it takes...
-
It's hard to do anything but pad printing on black keys. You wouldn't really see a dye-sub unless it's darker than the surrounding plastic. You can laser-etch black keys, but you have to fill the cavity with white coloring of some sort, and the ones I have seen don't really look that good. Double-shot is the only other way to go, but companies aren't really investing in that anymore.

a few of the letters on my black M13 are starting to look a bit worn -- paint slowly rubbing off. But the black texture on the keys is still in perfect shape except for some shine on the space bar.
I just wish all keyboard/computer makers still used such tough plastic for the keys -- my new Thinkpad is already getting shiney after just a couple of months.
