Title: KBP V60 case strengthen mod
Post by: ctm on Sat, 21 November 2015, 15:02:08
I posted a thread asking about modding V60 case to make it more solid some days ago (more detail here (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=77069.0)). I decided to go with a simple and reversible one first. I bought some pieces of basswood and cut them with Dremel (first time using Dremel. It's such a awesome tool!). I then stick these pieces of wood to the case using double sided tape. The result is quite satisfying. Of course it's not as solid as aluminum case, but it's less bendy than before.

UPDATE: I tried some InstaMorph to patch the corners. It does not seem to have much effect. (Nonetheless, InstaMorph is an interesting material to play with  :) )

Good work, balsa is light so I guess this doesn't change the feel too much - just need to hope the tape holds.

Dremels are indeed awesome tools with so many uses but be careful of shattered cutting disks if you get the urge to cut anything harder :thumb:

Thanks! For next step I am thinking about getting some moldable plastic to fill in the gaps.

Sugru maybe useful for that.

If I remember correctly, Sugru is more flexible after cured. I just ordered some InstaMorph to have a try.

Might do the same to my case if I get some spare time. Nice mod
