Title: Good day to you from sunny New Mexico
Post by: sgtpopwell on Sun, 22 November 2015, 02:30:00
Hi y'all!

I've been lurking for about a year. I decided to make an account back in the summer, and have only started posting recently within the last month. I grew up around computers as my father was a computer programmer all his life. I have owned many random boards over the years however I only really began to knowingly get into mechanical keyboards about a year and a half ago.

I have lived in New Mexico for about 5 years now. I am currently in between jobs and looking for new work. Last time I was employed, I was working first as a NOC technician and then a Data Admin Specialist for Sabre Airline Solutions. My primary hobbies are collecting vinyl records, and riding and wrenching on vintage BMW motorcycles and Lambretta scooters. I also love pizza and Top Gear, and greatly dislike long walks on the beach.

I currently own a Filco TKL MJ2 equipped with MX blues and the DSA Dolch keycap set, as well as a KUL ES-87 equipped with MX greens. I am a member of the trackball elite and am about to sell off two more Filco's and a Blackwidow Ultimate to help pay for rent/bills. Eventually someday I would love to find one of those Filco MJ2 yellow editions with MX blues, and an IBM Model M in and SSK configuration (wouldn't we all). It's nice to be here and I hope to learn much and be able to provide assistance in any way I can. Thanks folks and it's a pleasure to meet ya'll!

Welcome to Geekhack!

Have you got a preference between the blues and the greens?  I find I prefer the heavier switches.

DSA Dolch - from Massdrop or PMK?

I was trying for ages to get a yellow Filco, and failed.  Eventually a kind GHer bought such a keyboard (in the US), sold me the keycaps, someone else the switches, and someone else the case.  I still have those keycaps, they are very nice :)

Thanks! First off, JEALOUS about your keycaps. I had a brief shining chance to buy a set of the keycaps from a guy on /r/MK but I missed out unfortunately because of my own laziness.

My DSA set came from PMK. I also added RGB modifiers by purchasing blank singles from PMK (see attached picture below). I have seen RGB modifiers printed in the same font as the DSA Dolch set but I have no idea where they came from...maybe MD? Oh well...

I have only been clacking these greens for less then a month. I do really like them but I am actually still happier with the blues. I am not planning on getting rid of the KUL yet though. For a while I was typing on a board with MX blacks and I liked the feedback but not the linearity. I REALLY prefer clicky keys. I already had blues so that's why I decided to try out the MX greens. They are 20 grams heavier then the blacks though...Worst case scenario I'll just end up trading the KUL for another one with blues. I really like the quality of the ES-87.

AFAIK DSA RGB is only available from PMK, and may have been an option for the Dolch DSA group buy, which I missed (all three times!).

Perhaps you will like buckling springs one day ...

Oh I'm already a buckling spring fan as well  ;D. I used to own a Model M years ago but unfortunately I no longer have it. I would really like to get another one someday soon.

Unicomp has some modern variant, although they corrupted the bottom row.

Or you can search eBay - deals turn up all the time!

Plus keep an eye on classifieds - GH members sell their occasionally.
