Title: Problem Solved! Pics Inside <3 (Zealios+POM build)
Post by: trees on Sun, 22 November 2015, 21:04:23
Apparently, I was still shorting out, I put another layer of tape down inside and now I'm all good! Heres some pics for you all:

The glow is actually the RGB underlighting shining through the zealio housings. This required extensive case modification to fit.

Hand soldered and built by me!

Hi everyone,

So im working on assembling a new board, namely a B.Face in a tex alu case.

Im in the final stages of assembly and ive hit a road block. Ive soldered in the diodes and the switches then went to put it in the case. When the PCB is just in the case, its fine, its plugged in and working, able to program it, etc. BUT when i go to screw it into the case it does one of two things: 1) disconnects from the PC and then pops up with a 'windows does not recognize the device message'. OR 2) The top row registers their entire column.

Now, heres what i've done to troubleshoot:

I covered the ENTIRE inside of the case in electrical tape.
I checked all soldering joints to make sure they are done properly, and no problems there.

It seems to only happen with the left side screws, i can screw the right side down with no issue.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Are there any diodes near the screw holes?  Some PCB/case combos have issues where something shorts, though I don't know which.

If not, are there any dents left in the tape that might hint where the problem could be?

The "unrecognised device" message can happen when the USB connection is shorted, is the connector a tight fit to the hole in the case?

There are diodes near the screw hole, but i taped off the entire insides of the case, including the screw holes. So even if its touching it should be insulated.

The connector is not tight or touching any of the metal either.
