Had this douch canoe run a red light, I didn't see that he ran the light due to the light being on the other side of an overpass, so I go on my green light and get side swiped by his trailer.
Best part? His trailer is not covered under his insurance. Uggghhhhhhhhh
He hit my car and the car next to me

lots of people do this.. super dangerous..
if you're going fast, even if you're doing 40mph, you cover ~18 meters per second. The quickest cellphone pickup is around 2 meters so that's 36 meters you cover PER cellphone call..
alot can happen in 36 meters.. because @ that distance things can still look pretty small.. so you don't gauge their speed and position very well..

This sucks. :( Sorry, man. At least you are okay.
Had a texting driver run into my car which after a month and half is still.not.fixed. I hope your insurance claim goes easier than mine.
I agree, don't text and drive.
Edit: "douche canoe" is fantastic.

everytime u pick up a cellphone it's 36 meters.. if you start texting, that could go on as long as 5-10 seconds
that's 90 to 180 meters that you drive blind.. which is 1 to 2 football fields.. @ 40 miles per hour.

It's amazing how many people, when behind the wheel of a vehicle, do everything BUT drive.
My brother and I saw a guy pass us on the freeway(we were speeding at 90mph/144kph) and this dude passes us with his visor down, looking in the mirror ****ing shaving with one of those electric shaver things.
Sorry this happened to you. What legal recourse do you have for repairs, etc?

I honestly hope the people on GH have enough sense to not text and drive. And not just say it as in you might do it once in a while but not usually, I mean as in never as in you let it go or pull over because you are in a two ton death machine going 40mph and not looking at the road even for a few seconds can get some killed.
-
Ouch.
I hope you are ok!

I dont understand why people engage in a lower form of technology. An age where you can hear the voice of someone far away from you. Where you can
speak to them, without dangerously taking your eyes off the road to type on a tiny screen. I think it's called.... A F**KING TELEPHONE!
Why as a society, are we ok with this inadequate communication format in lieu of actually speaking to someone?

Sorry to hear about the accident.. Even texting while driving bans and ticket threats don't stop people from doing it... And most people are already poor drivers to begin with

That sucks Bromono. I got my car pushed through and intersection three years ago by someone texting and driving, and of course without insurance. feelsbadman.jpg

Sorry to hear about the accident. Hope it can get settled without too much trouble.
I don't like the idea of texting while driving. I have my phone set up so I can skip a song by pressing and holding the volume button so I don't have to look (I use an aux cable).
But I agree, people are already bad drivers, they don't need to add texting into the mix and make things more dangerous.
-
If you'd like to inspire yourself to quit driving in a hurry, try standing in a moderately busy part of town, and count the number of drivers texting while driving. It's absurd.
-
You okay? Sore?

so.. well, I think reading and writing txts is much faster than speaking.

I'm all good for the people asking :thumb:
Just pissed that my insurance has to take care of it.
Luckily I had just started to go on the green light so I was not going fast and was able to break before he t-boned us.
He got out and admitted that he was "distracted"

****, i don't even like talking if i'm driving. This really annoys my wife if we have to drive 6hours.
I will listen to music or a podcast however, i don't think i could ever stop that bad habit.
The worse i'll do is if a call is incoming, i'll look at my pebble, and if it isn't my wife or family, goes to voicemail. If it's a txt i'll read it quickly but won't respond. (on my watch, that means it has to be like 6 words heh)
As far as i know, i'm the most "stick up the a$$" person i know when it comes to driving w/o distractions.

I usually ignore texts until I stop and I go to speakerphone if someone important is calling. Otherwise I call them back when I stop.
Developed the habit of actually focussing when driving from learning to ride a motorbike before car. There are no distractions on a bike and you have to stay alert while riding if you want to live... especially in South Africa where the drivers tend to ignore anything smaller than their own vehicle.
Seriously people... other lives at stake, pay attention when on the road.
-
Man that sucks. Glad you are alright.
I used to be able to pull it off with T9 texting with one hand and eyes on the road - but smartphone keyboards make it impossible to text and drive.
-
I'm in favor of making cell phone use a primary offense to be pulled over by police. Currently it's only a secondary offense in Florida, i.e., the offender will also need to be speeding or some other primary offense to be ticketed for cell phone use.
My friend who is an Orange County deputy pulls drivers over for cell phone use only however - lol. A fair amount of people don't know the laws.
