Fun fact: I had this friend who insisted on calling hotdogs - HoeRogs.

Depends on the occasion. I think I like the taste of sausage more though.

sausage of course, with grain hot mustard

but than hot dog is a sausage, but has a finer filling

the real question is, boiled , steamed or grilled?

I didn't know this was even a choice.

Sausage.

They cannot be compared.

You appear to have posted two photos of hot dogs. That second photo certainly doesn't look like sausages... at least to a non-American.

There are a lot more kinds of sausages than there are of hot dogs, a sub-set of sausages.

High-end sausage can be amazing, but for a quick meal on the run, hot dogs are much easier to eat.

I think... if you fast chop the sausage,  and microwave in a covered glass container.. you can achieve speeds near that of Hotdog preperation.

Actually, I was thinking in terms of the actual eating.

I make it a point to always chew my food properly, and most sausages have enough substance and texture that they need to be masticated thoroughly, while a hot dog can practically be bolted down.

...Actually, you know what? From several hunters around here, I've gotten deer sausage, and my goodness, is it good. That's definitely my favorite sausage overall, and definitely more so than any hot dog, but like most are saying, hot dogs are usually more convenient.

Unless the sausage is already cooked, then they're 1:1. Heat it up, throw it on a bun, then enjoy just like a hot dog!

But there is something satisfying about downing 3-4 hotdogs on a drunken cookout.

There are only two ways I can eat hot dogs.  Either cold with mustard, or grilled with a very good char.  But 95% of the time I prefer sausage.

Hot dogs. But you have to get the good kind, Hebrew National jumbo kosher franks. They're all beef, obviously, and not the gross parts you hear about hot dogs being made from.

If you think hot dogs are lazy/poor people food, buy some Hebrews and see how hot dogs go from "I guess I'll eat that" to one of your favorite meals.

P.S. - I like to pan fry them in butter to get all the kosher off.

What do sausages look like where you're from?

They're usually brown for starters, not that weird orange-red that hot dogs are.

The best sausages I've ever had though are from Northern Thailand and range from moderately spicey to mouth destroyingly hot.

It's difficult to be sure,    because,,  a world without Hot-dogs  would be awful..  even if we had unlimited sausage..

So...  perhaps, they're not substitutes...

Oh I also forgot, I am from a cattle station and we will be doing a killer soon (i.e. cutting up our own meat) does anyone want to see how sausages are made?

Bonus nachos photos from the house, there were no cattle near by to take a photo of unfortunately:

I feel like Nathan's is too garlic-y  ..  I wonder if they make a low sodium version so I can eat the whole pack.

Bangers are sausages. It's a dish originating from the British Isles and can be considered traditional pub food. The first time I had the dish was at an Irish pub local to where I went to college. It was a party in my mouth.
