Title: Ducky 5 Shine with Nature White switches
Post by: fuzzybaffy on Tue, 22 December 2015, 01:07:43
So... this isn't meant to be a full blown review, so I hope it's ok to put here.

What can I say? I'm impressed. It feels sturdier and better than my Filco, in terms of the chassis. The spacebar is better than my Filco's as well. The difference doesn't seem as big on video, but in person, it's a big difference: the Ducky spacebar feels more even, smooth, and sturdy. Although, I'll agree it doesn't have quite the "snap" and quickness as the Filco spacebar.

As far as the Nature White switches go... first impressions are, wow, these are more stiff than I thought. Of course, I knew they'd be stiffer than Red switches (which have the same stiffness as Browns, right? Which is the type of switch I have on my Filco), but I didn't think it'd be this big of a difference. Coming from MX Browns, I'm liking linear switches much more - Browns just felt unrefined and too "scratchy" for me. Time will tell if I'm ok with this switch's resistance - it's not terribly stiff, yet it's not super light like MX Browns/Reds either. I feel like this has the perfect amount of resistance to prevent accidental key presses in games, though - but I've never had issues with that on my MX Brown board.

All in all, REALLY happy with this board so far. The board construction and fit just feels incredibly nice - overall better than my Filco. The spacebar, which was really my biggest gripe on the Filco, is definitely better on the Ducky as well.

Thank you.   Mine will be coming today.
I need you to do me a favor.

Can you please contact ducky (email them) and ask them to RELEASE a BETA FIRMWARE for the SHINE 5 that fixes the REACTIVE MODE ADVANCED Color cycling problem, but **DOES NOT LOWER THE MAX BRIGHTNESS OF THE LED's like YOTG 1.04 does??  There have been several posts here and on the reddit forums with people complaining about the bug.  The same bug happened on the shine 4 and Ducky DID send me a beta firmware a month'ish ago for the shine 4 which fixes this bug, yet it's not on their website at all (FW 1.12 ansi)

Year of the Goat has the same problem but Ducky sent a beta firmware (1.0.3) which fixes reactive mode advanced, but there's still a space bar "stuck" bug when using the color palette selector and then pressing space afterwards on all Goats/shine 5's.   They made a 1.0.4 YOTG beta firmware which did NOT fix the color palette space bug and which LOWERED the max brightness of USB 2 and 3 modes, by far too much (completely unnecessary) and I requested a 1.0.5 (which I am STILL waiting for, until then I use 1.03) which reverts the brightness change and which can hopefully fix the palette space issue.  But at the very least, Shine 5 users need the same Reactive Mode Advanced Beta fix that Year of the Goat 1.03 has (which you STILL can't download from ducky..they have to email it to you >_>)

(Note: you can backflash from YOTG 1.04 to 1.03 just by pressing "Enter" on your keyboard, even though the "OK" button is greyed out when the flasher's firmware is older than your current f/w).
